| Claritin for pups? Help! I need advice. Darwin went to the vet today, and I mentioned to her he's been scratching a lot and biting at his paws and behind...she pretty much told me if at 6 months, he's exhibiting allergy symptoms, we're going to be dealing with itchy, rashy, troubles his whole entire life. She recommended we give him 1/4 tablet of claritin 12 hr once to twice per day, and put him on a special shampoo called "VIRBAC." She also said he has "flea allergies" which means he's highly allergic to flea bites, which got me scared & thinking he has fleas. She said he could have been bitten, but not have an infestation b/c of the frontline plus that we put on him will kill the flea after 8 mins of them biting. But within the 8 mins, a single flea could bit up to 30 times. What does everyone think of long term claritin use, and should I start giving it to him at 6 months of age? Or should I try to control it by using the special shampoo first? I don't want him to be uncomfortable, on top of his itchiness, he's teething right now, so he's not sleeping well at night, tossing and turning...poor lil guy. |
