Default "Pupcorn"~ anyone know anything about it?

I bought a tub of these treats awhile ago. They are low fat, low calorie and low sodium. Made by Sunshine Mills, Inc. They have a website sunshinepettreats.com and it looks like they're a good, healthy treat.

Just wondering if anyone else has fed these and if they believe them to be as healthy as they profess to be?

Max and Madison love the peanut butter flavored ones.

I got mine at Walmart. Check there. I think they're only about $3 for the tub. Also, on the website they sell them at Longs drugs in CA. Didn't check where they sell them everywhere else, but you could check on their site

The only place I could find the ingredients was on PetSmart's website, they list them as:

Corn flour, wheat flour, natural chicken flavor, powdered cellulose, chicken, canola oil, dried cheese product, mono and di-glycerides, corn syrup, yellow #6, lecithin

Yuck. They contain both corn and wheat, two ingredients I keep away from my dogs at all times.

Mine eat them also...not as healthy as carrots, but they get them a few time a month...

Hmm..well, I make homemade treats with whole wheat flour, so I guess it won't hurt mine. The corn flour, I'm not sure about. Not exactly what I'd call natural; I'll have to research it a little more or show it to my vet I guess.

Love

My three yorkies have had one container which they received in the GE box. When they were gone I went on line looking to buy more. They were $l9.99 plus shipping. I looked at stores listd that carry them. Walmart was one of the stores listed. Checked out Walmart and they had 2 flavors of pupcorn. They sell theirs for less than $3.00.and shipping not required. They do contain corn and wheat flour. One of my dogs is allergic to corn and wheat so that is why I did not buy anymore. It was well liked when we had it.

They are pretty much just 'fluff'--I don't know that I would put to much stock in them having ANY nutritional value--good OR bad--as there really doesn't seem to be alot to them. The three pooches that stay with my parents eat these and seem to enjoy them, but I can't imagine why!

To be honest and share one of my not-so-proudest-the-was-incredibly-stupid-why-did-I-do-that moments......I was sitting at the rents house one day looking at the and reading the ingredients and commented to my mom and sis that the ingredients were all things that were pretty common in people foods. Then, I did one of the dumbest things I have ever done in my life: I took a little nibble off the corner of one to see what it tasted like and 3 hours later I was still trying to get the 'taste' out of my mouth. It was disgusting...I liken it to a styrofoam peanut with flavor. Mmmm....tasty. Obviously, that is still a big joke w/ the family.

Sam has never had them but my other two boys, Charlie and Martin, used to eat them and love them.

Our local store has them as well as WalMart.

I just wanted to mention that someone gave us pupcorn and Teddy got one wedged tightly in the roof of his mouth. He was in a panic trying to get it out and I had to pry it out with my finger. It was really wedged in there tight and really scary.

After that happened I broke them up in 3 or 4 pieces and still watched him carefully. Just thought I would mention this so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

ROFL....well, actually, I guess I didn't really expect them to be health ENHANCING food, but my thought was that they're ok to give them as a treat since they're low cal and low fat and low sodium. And the dogs love them. Plus, they're crunchy.

I have to say, I'm glad you told me about the taste, b/c I'm sure I would have gotten around to tasting them myself eventually. And I DID taste the treats I made for them which they also LOVE ..one is banana and one is apple they smell so good but....GACK......gross. But they like them...so, far be it from me to tell them what tastes good or not. As in, another post, I told about Max eating cigarette butts.... more than once. So I don't brag about the flavor of my homemade dog treats, LOL.

That's a good thought~ Max crunches his up right in front of me b/c he expects to get TWO of them each time he gets a treat. And Madison seemed to have a problem with them being too hard (I got the peanut butter ones, don't know if the cheese flavored are as hard) and I'd break each one in half. But I can see them getting lodged in them if they have a tendency to swallow things instead of chewing them (and my dogs do that a lot...just not with these luckily).
