| Is this a tick? What is it? I shaved Otis down this morning, and in the process of doing so, I found a small black dot on his shoulder. It looks like a small beauty mark, the size of a medium flea, but it's a circle. It wouldn't come off. I inspected it real close, did not see a head or legs, and I tried to tweeze it off, but i didn't want to hurt him if it was a mole. Do dogs even get beauty marks? I really don't think it's a tick as I can't find any extremeties or legs or a head or anything. Anyone have an idea what it could be? |

Too funny! The ticks around here are bigger than that also if they are "normal" ticks. Deer ticks are really small almost like tiny baby regular ticks. But you can always see legs even when they are imbedded in.

| I don't see any legs or a head or anything. I looked at it for about 20 minutes under a flashlight! He's not scratching or anything. Gosh, if I have to go to the vet again, they're going to lock the doors when they see me. This will be the fourth visit in four weeks. |

| Do dogs get moles? I never noticed this one before. There's hair missing there only because I purposely buzzed the area to inspect the dot. |

| I never knew dogs could get moles either, but it woudln't be too far off really if it's true. Doesn't look like a tick, really...hmm.

| Buckeye has a couple of spots like that but his in underneath. i never thought much of it thinking it was, like you said, a mole. He has an annual check up next month maybe i better mention it to the vet this trip. Has the spot always been there? or you just now notice it?

| It doesn't really look like a tick to me, but one way to know for sure it to wait a day or so and see if it gets bigger -- as the tick feeds on the blood, it gets larger and larger, so if you see it growing, than it is likely a tick.
