| Fleas? Dry skin? He's been scratching a lot. I couldn't find any fleas on him (looked around the lighter fur area and belly area) and he doesn't seem to have dry skin either. I don't know why he's been scratching a lot this morning. Does anyone have any idea? ( or is this a normal thing? ) I've never seen a dog with fleas in scratching action either so I don't know what severe the scratching would be if he does have fleas. He's about 4 months old now but the flea medication says wait until he's 6 months. so I'm waiting and waiting. Thanks everyone |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | What food do you feed? Lots of yorkies experience the itchies with food that contains corn as an ingrediant. Another thing that makes them itchy...is bathing them but not rinsing all the soap out. Some animals react wildly to just one flea bite....so it may not be he's invested with them but you may miss seeing one. What flea product do you have that says wait until 6 months? Reggie is 18 weeks old and already on frontline...abet half the dose.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Well..first - are you using a really good puppy shampoo and rinsing him very well ? ..Soap residue will make them scratch - and if you DO decide to get Flea medication - go thru your vet - don't trust the Over the counter stuff especially HARTZ !! It's toxic I just did a post about my girls scratching (no fleas either) and you may want to read the responses - My problems seems to be my water and I'm going to get a filter for my shower - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...-question.html |

Do not purchase otc flea medicines. Some are quite toxic and most are worthless at flea control.

Yorkie Yakker | You should get flea/heartworm prevention pills from your vet. Moses was given some at his first visit (when i first got him). he was only 8 weeks old then. As for the itchies, it could be allergies, soap (like the others said) or even the type of food he's eating. HTH!
