| Vectra 3D input please?? Good Morning! with the mild winter we've had,, fleas are already a problem in our area. Last summer my girls basically didnt go outside unless we carried them, no walks,, anything. As everytime we did,, Daisy would pick up fleas and they never even got in the grass! or around another animal! so,, i'm trying to decide on a parasite protection for our girls,, our Vet recommends Vectra 3D,, which they say is having no problems with small dogs and works well even with the frequent baths they receive,, so i'm wondering what YT-ers have to say on this subject. And since Vectra 3D is only available thru licensened practicing vets, where pricing is high,, and it cant be gotten thru other sources for lesser prices,,I'm just wondering what YT-ers say is on this matter! as i find YT a wonderful source of information! Thanks to all!

| as you can see,, still no input on this question,, and i've yet to decide on using it,, i do know a single 6 months supply will be $80+,, which for me would be ,, 6 months,, $240,, still trying to decide if we can again live without the flea protection,, I hate to use stuff like that if we can get along without that going into their system,,,,

| Active Ingredients Dinotefuran 4.95% Pyriproxyfen 0.44% Permethrin 36.08% I didn't realize it had permethrin in it. This is exactly why I say NOT to use Advantix. I hate all pesticides but this one isn't one I'd want to use.

| Permethrin Permethrin is a common synthetic chemical, widely used as an insecticide and acaricide and as an insect repellent. It belongs to the family of synthetic chemicals called pyrethroids and functions as a neurotoxin, affecting neuron membranes by prolonging sodium channel activation. In agriculture, permethrin is mainly used on cotton, wheat, maize, and alfalfa crops, and is also used to kill parasites on chickens and other poultry. Its use is controversial since, as a broad-spectrum chemical, it kills indiscriminately; as well as the intended pests, it can harm beneficial insects including honey bees, aquatic life,[1] and small mammals such as mice. Permethrin is toxic to cats and many cats die each year after being given flea treatments intended for dogs, or by contact with dogs who have recently been treated with permethrin. However, permethrin can be used in a targeted manner as well. This is the basis for a method of reducing populations of the deer tick Ixodes scapularis (I. dammini). Biodegradable cardboard tubes stuffed with permethrin-treated cotton, are sold under the brand name Damminix,[2] Mice collect the cotton for lining their nests, and the pesticide on the cotton kills any immature ticks that are feeding on the mice.[3] Permethrin is also used in healthcare, to eradicate parasites such as head lice and mites responsible for scabies, and in industrial and domestic settings to control pests such as ants and termites. Permethrin kills ticks on contact with treated clothing. According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health, it "has low mammalian toxicity, is poorly absorbed through the skin and is rapidly inactivated by the body. Skin reactions have been uncommon."[4] Permethrin is used in tropical areas to prevent mosquito-borne disease such as dengue fever and malaria. Mosquito nets used to cover beds may be treated with a solution of permethrin. Military personnel training in malaria-endemic areas may be instructed to treat their uniforms with permethrin as well. An application should last several washes. Categories: Insecticides | Antiparasitic agents | Household chemicals | Organochlorides | Phenol ethers | Pyrethroids I gave Buddy his first application this am. It was recommended by my vet also. Every product has some kind of poison in it. Unless you live where there is no grass, trees and wild animals I would feel you need something to protect your pet and your home from fleas and ticks. My vet uses this product and his receptionist who has 4 Yorkies has been using it for a couple of months he said with no side effects at all. I hope it works and Bud has no reaction to it. I only use is between April - Oct giving his body a rest for 5mos. |

| Buddy had his second application last Fri. He has had no problems with this product. Also no ticks or fleas. Fleas and ticks are high in our area and it's just not worth trying homemade products that don't seem to work. No way am I dealing with fleas on Bud or in our home. He is four now and I have always used Frontline until my vet suggested this new product. If it's good enough for his dog and the receptionists 4 Yorkies it's good enough for me. To date I have never seen a flea on Buddy but did see 2 ticks last year. This new product is suppose to kill ticks in 3hrs where Frontline only kills certain kinds of ticks. Hope this helps you. |

I bath Buddy every two weeks since he's in the house and only outside for walks. I waited three days after application to bath him. | |

| Just bought Vectra 3D Hi - I'm new to this forum....I was also looking for information on Vectra 3D. We've been using K9 Advantix for the last year on our 2 Maltese puppies Winston and Wesley (1 1/2 years). When I went to the vet today to pick up some more K9 they said that they no longer carry it and instead carry/recommend Vectra 3D. They've switched to Vectra because they said that dogs will develop a resistance to a product if they are on it too long so they recommend rotating...this logic made complete sense to me so we bought it. A six pack cost $95 and change. Our vet said that it will begin working within 6 hours of application and you can bathe your dog about 24-48hours following application. K9 worked really well for us in the past so I'm hoping Vectra will work jus[F][/FONT]t as well. |

| I am not a Yorkie owner, however I want to express my opinion about Vectra3d Flea control product. I had a 13 year old Mini Dachshund. Good health, no major problems. It may have been coincidence but we got this product from our Vet who recommended it after they told us they were no longer carrying Advantage, which is what we had used many times before on our dog. Well, long story short. 3 days after using this product our dog passed away. Pretty horrible experience, maybe not the fault of this product, but it was very coincidental to say the least. One day she was fine, the next she was panting and breathing fast and hard. Took her to a new Vet who said he never heard of Vectra, but "doubted" it was a contributing factor as to her heavy breathing. He "thought" it looked and sounded more like a collapsed trachea. He gave her what a steroid shot, gave me some pills and told me not to start the p-ills unless her condition improved by 8:30 am the next morning and then call him. Well, the next morning at 4 am, she passed away. End of story and I will never use this product again, regardless. Rest in peace Sabrina, we will miss you! |
