luxating left knee Help!!!! I took Poppy to the vet last week for her yearly vaccination. Whilst there She had a general health check and the vet asked if i had any concerns. I mentioned that when she woke up from a snooze the other day she limped on her back leg for about a minute and was then back to normal. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I was quite shocked when the vet after feeling her back legs mentioned luxating knee, ordered one week of strict rest and a weeks course of rimadyl tablets, to be followed by a week of gentle exercise and then a general anesthetic and x-ray and possible operation. I don't really get on with the particular vet i saw as he always seems to be trying to sell you something anesthetic you visit. I am terrified about my angel having a general anesthetic / possible operation and feel after doing some research on the internet that the operation can bring on the onset of arthritis ,I might not go back for any treatment. Poppy is as lively as ever and strict rest is impossible but she is in no evident pain, what should I do.

If you don't feel comfortable with your vet then you need to find another vet and get a 2nd opinion. You need to know if she has LP and what grade it is so you will know how to treat her. It is not good to let Yorkies do a lot of jumping but sometimes it is very difficult to stop.

She does'nt do a lot of jumping (bit lazy really) although I do pamper her. She uses Doggie Stairs to get on our bed and although she will jump up onto the sofa, she will never jump down without doing a small jump onto a bean bag we push alongside the sofa first and then down to the floor.

My yorkie has that too. It bothers me more than it bothers her. My Bella jogs beside me on three legs just fine. I would leave it unless she seems in distress.
