I have a 3 month old yorkie girl that have one ear up but the other one is not.
Should I be worrying about the now or should I just give it some time.
I tried taping her ear up with 3 different kinds of tape and she just scratched them all out immediately. Please help.......

believe it or not i was reading about that yesterday on a breeder site and they used scotch tape i have never had to do this so im of no help other than what i just told you welcome to yt hope you enjoy yourself here one big family!

As long as they are teething sometimes the ears will come up and back down. You just need to keep taping the ears and leave them 3 days and then take them out and see if they stay. Its sometimes a slow process. Also make sure you have the V cut on the hair on the back side of the ear and also all the hair on the inside around close to the shape of the ear. The hair wait will pull the ears down as well. Keep taping the ears if she scratches them out. Put them back up.

yeah i heard the same thing , heard maybe shave the ears. Scotch and fold like a taco i was told, make sure air can still get to the ear. Use your pinkie she said. That is what a breed told me, I have nver done this.

When we brought Coby home, both ears were up and sturdy. In about a week, one ear became very weak and fell. I was researching the taping, etc. But by the time I thought I would attempt it, it popped back up. Yeah! Then the other fell. Within a couple weeks, both were up and have been ever since.

Bottom Line - everyone that I know has had the experience that they just go up and down when they're teething (calcium is rerouted from the ears to the teeth or some scientific explanation like that). Then once they're up, they stay up. So I wouldn't fret too much about it. Most people just try to keep the hair shaved to not add weight. Very few that I know have actually had a longer term problem that requires much taping.

Tessa is now 4mths old and her ears are up. They were up and down while teething but they seem to be straight up now, much to my dismay!

I was hoping they would stay down 'cause she looked so darn cute

(I don't show and don't breed) My vet book does say that the ears will do what they want while a puppy is teething

LOL - I know what you mean. There are a few Yorkies here on YT whose ears stayed down, and I gotta say, they are adorable.

I have a german shepherd with one ear up and one down...she's unique I say..The breeder said that her moms ears did the same thing, well, after reading, I figured out it was hereditary and it was a weak ear..so, she's now 1 1/2 with one up one down, but to me she's just beautiful the way she is...the breeder did come and help me tape after I first got her, but, I could tell it was painful the way it was taped, and I wasn't going to put her through any pain..figured her ears were going to be how they were going to be and just left it..she's not a show dog, she's my pet..

I have an 8 month old and she has one ear up and one ear down. The breeder told me that they may not stand up because the mom's ears never did. I was going to tape it up but my understanding is that after 6 months if they were not standing they would not. It is funny it is the tip area that is not standing not the whole ear. Where it is shaved is where it is flipped down. She is cute no matter what. She has even won a place in my hubby's heart (who DOES NOT like little dogs)

but, he couldn't say no to his little girl who worked so hard for her.

My yorkie is 6 months old now, his ears came up shortly before christmas, and stayed up until a couple of weeks ago, I keep hoping they will come back up. Sometimes the right ear will pop up for a few seconds, and then the left ear. The right one some to stay up longer than the left one. I had his ears shaved hoping this would help. I taped his ears before they started standing the first time. He really hates the tape, so I am going to let them be, if they stand they stand, if not he'll still be my baby, floppy ears and all. You can check out some of my other post, you will pictures of him with floppy ears and some with erect ears. I would attach pictures here, but I am on someone elses computer, therefore I do not have pictures.

My 14 week old Yorkie's ears are currently taped. They kept acting like they weren't quite sure if they wanted to stand up or not.

In addition to folding them in half vertically, I also taped a rod across them (by using a cuticle stick!) to keep them sturdy and in an even line. He seems to be tolerating it well. I've removed the tape a couple of times to bathe him and his ears were standing although the cartilage is still soft.

So while it'll probably take awhile, I think I have a pretty good shot at getting them to stand permanently.

My other Yorkie (who now technically belongs to my mother) has floppy ears that'll come up a bit whenever the hair is trimmed. I think the floppy look is equally adorable.

We just thought it was cute and gave it no more thought.

I've got my Yorkie for 2 wks now. He's 10 wks old-his ears are down. What exactly do you shave off? Both sides of the ears? Only the tips? Doesn't it look odd if I shave off the hair on the outside of his ears? I'm just soooo confused and don't want to mess up his looks. Once he hair is gone...well, it's gone! Any suggestions???
