| Feeding..too often for 6 months? When i brought Pixie home in september at 14 weeks old i was told by her breeder what to feed and to feed her 4 times a day, no more than about a tablespoonful at a time...8am,midday,4pm,8pm. She was around 1.5lbs back then. Now she's nearly 6 months and around 2lbs 4oz and im still feeding her 4 times a day probably about a tablespoonful and a half at each feed. She has a little drink of warm goats milk and some scrambled egg for brekkie, her meat and kibble for lunch with maybe a bit of chicken mixed in, meat & kibble for dinner and some chicken breast for supper at 8pm. do you think this is too much? she nearly always eats it all ,she has always had a very good apetite.

| Well... every dog is different, so I cant tell you yes or no on that. I can tell you that I feed my pup twice a day 1/4 each time. She may get a snack in between, but thats it. Was there a reason that you had to have such a special eating diet for your pup?

| No, not really, because she's small i suppose little and often is good. I may start to try other things a bit more, like cottage cheese and yoghurt etc, i'm wary of upsetting her tummy, her breeder told me not to feed too much in one sitting as her stomach is tiny and i would upset it.

| i also feed 1/4 or 1/3 lol i forgot the measuring cup is in the food lol! 2 times a day! but they do get snacks like yogurt, or eggs, or treats, I do know when they are tiny its good to feed more often considering HYPO.

| It seems to be working for her at the moment, she's gaining weight which is comforting to see as she's only little, and she has good solid non-smelly stools! apart from a couple of times when she's eaten something horrid while out on the lead, and that has upset her tummy!

| I think it is fine to keep doing it like you are. Ellie is fed 3x daily because she gets very hungry midday and with homecooking there is a lot of bulk, so they can't eat that much in two meals. I see that you are feeding her dog food twice a day, right? Do you think she is getting enough vitamins and minerals in the amount of dog food that you are giving her to not supplement with her homecooked breakfast and supper? Am I making sense?

| No, actually it is probably my explaining. I think I've gotten myself into trouble now because I don't think I can explain this. What I am saying is people food doesn't have enough nutritional value to feed it without supplements. If you were feeding all dog food but just giving small snacks of people food throughout the day you wouldn't need to supplement because the dog food has taken care of it. It looks like you are feeding quite a bit of people food and you may need to start supplementing because she isn't eating as much dog food as others dogs and not getting the the calcium she needs. Do I make sense now?

| YES! Now you can ignore everything I just said if you think you are giving her enough dog food to take care of it. I would probably read the side of the package and see how much they recommend for her weight. If you feed the minimal amount suggested, you know she is covered and can feed all the people food on top of that that you want. You could always just homecook entirely. It sounds like you are mostly there already.
