| cauliflower and carrots & potatos?!! are they harmful for Yorkies? Last week we cleaned out our garden and canned some gardenia mix...carrots, cauliflower, onions, pickles, olives and peppers. well in the process we had a few things that got dropped off the counter i.e. cauliflower and carrot pieces. Well sniper Koda who is always right there in the kitchen to help out snatched them up and took off. after he finished the scraps he grabbed he came back and begged for more! We gave him a small peice of each and he took off and gobbled them up. these (carrots cauliflower) aren't anything that could be really harmful to him are they? and the potato thing. last week while i was putting grocerys away i heard some noise. So i went to investigate and there was Koda digging in the bag of potatoes!! I went to his "spot" and found that he had basically peeled or rather chipped a whole other potato! BTW these were all raw and from our garden so no chemicals were ever on them. |

| ALL of those veggies with the exception of the onions, pickles and I think olives, are actually quite good for yorkies! Boy isn't that better than having them get a "candy" craving? Sonya

| Just don't overdo on the broccoli. It can cause problems if they eat too much. http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dtoxin.h...oli%20toxicity Broccoli toxicity Q and nudge: Dear Mike, This is follow-up on yesterday's conversation just to remind you. If the stuff is a no-no for dogs as well as ex-Pres. Bush, maybe it's worth noting in your web site. Thanks, NvB A: It is always good to remind me of things -- I had forgotten. Broccoli toxicity has been noted in livestock. Apparently in California it is widely available at certain times and the dairy cattle there are fed broccoli due to this. If the percentage of broccoli in the diet exceeds 10% it can cause gastrointestinal upsets and if it exceeds 25% it is fatal. I could not find any references to problems with broccoli in small animals, probably because no one feeds them more than 10% of their diet as broccoli or possibly because they don't have rumens and therefore don't digest the broccoli as thoroughly. The toxic ingredient in broccoli is isothiocyanate and it is reported to be a pretty potent gastrointestinal irritant. So G. might be right. But I did find several references suggesting that broccoli should be fed to pets because of the bioflavinoids in it and their cancer fighting capabilities. So he might be wrong. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are planning on feeding a lot of broccoli at one time to Kate. But your daughter might want to follow her vet's advice or find out if there is more evidence of toxicity than I can find. Mike Richards, DVM Also for broccoli and potatos (and others) see this link http://www.heathershomemadedogtreats.com/toxic.html

| Carrots are good for them. My big dog would eat a whole bowl of carrots if I let her, she loves them.

| Carrots and cauliflower are fine. I would be careful with raw potatoes that aren't peeled. There is something to do with the thing that makes some potato peelings green that is not good. Potatoes themselves are fine though.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Potatoes = awesome for them! Nice, clean carb (cooked/mashed). Cauliflower = could be more difficult to digest. Carrots = very good for them, but can initially cause gatric upset (loose stools), so introduce slowly.

| Potatoes and carrots are good, but I would not feed raw potatoes. Make sure that the potatoes are not green because it can be toxic...Not just to dogs, but it's bad for humans too. I would boil peel and boil the potatoes
