YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Isle of Dogs - Program for YOrkies When I was at the Bluegrass Classic this weekend, Trish Panarella shared with me this procedure for both show and "pet" dogs. It is a bit lengthy so I will do in two parts: *no 10 Shampoo contains 1% cold pressed Evening Primsrose oil for coat health and quality. *No 12 Shampoo contains 3% Evening Primrose oil at veterinary strength. For dogs who itch or get hot spots, use #12. Gloss Shampoo is a rich, hibiscus based shampoo great for dogs who have dry coat, or whose coat tends to be flyaway and brittle at the ends. Maintenance Bathing: Use #10 or #12 shampoo mixed 1-10. work into coat, let sit 1-2 minutes and rinse well. work in #51 Conditioner full strength and let sit 3 minutes. Rinse well and blow dry. Alterante every 3-4 baths use Gloss Shampoo and Nutrient Masque to treat and strengthen delicate Yorkie coat. With the shampoos do not expect a lot of lather as they do not use sulfates.

| Thank you for sharing this info. Although we are enjoying Coat Handler, I cannot resist trying Isle of Dogs. We will be ordering soon. |

What is the reason to alternate with the Gloss shampoo? And is the Nutrient Masque instead of the conditioner?

| Ugh! Not more grooming products! I'm a grooming product addict and you are not helping! I'll be watching to see if everyone is pleased but I can not possible fit one more bottle of shampoo or conditioner in my closet so I'll have to wait until some of the current ones are used up! My show dog does have a bit of a coarser coat - although still silk - and I'm always looking for the product that is just right! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | This is a deep conditioning treatment. With show dogs who get washed, blowdried and coat ironed (alot), the hair does tend to take a bit of a beating. So once a month or so the gloss shampoo and masque

| Oh geez, I may have to try it. Is the Gloss Shampoo & Maque one ? Do you think it would work on a cotton coat? Where are you ordering from?

There is a huge thread on here about conditioning for cotton coats. I think PEK from ISB is a godsend there. I would also try the Biogroom Silk first, because it is quite reasonable, and easily available from some pet stores, they will also send you samples. But back to IOD I get my products when I am at shows, but you can order on line at www.iod.com Just a word about any and all s&C, please do dilute particularly the good stuff like ISB and IOD and follow religiously their timing. If they say 5 minutes leave on then set your timer for that, and leave it in. To protect if your doggie gets cold, I preheat towels in dryer and wrap dog up in warm towel and hold until timer goes off, and or I also take the opportunity to massage my dogs. That is one reason they love bath times, massage, warm towels, lots of Mommy time. Also with a cottony coat I might like to leave in a little more of the conditioner. Shampooing of course you rinse and rinse and then rinse out some more, but with conditioner you can leave a little in the coat. Get paws on top and underneath, behind ears, in loins, their rear end etc really rinsed well. Oh yes also I saw somewhere a question about getting water into ears. Here are a couple of techniques you can try. I squeeze gently ear shut, when rinsing off head, you can also try cotton balls in ears, I have rinsed face and head off with a poptop empty coke/pepsi bottle. I use that a lot in between full bath days when I am only doing moustaches and head. Just make sure you use enough rinses to get that pesky shampoo out. I use a detachable shower head, although I have read in a couple of places to use a steady stream of water, rather than a spray nozzle, but at this point I've only used the spray. Hope this helps

| Have you used Vellus and how do you think it compares? |
01-01-2011, 12:08 PM | #11 |
YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I was not impressed with Vellus for my silk coated boy. How-ever CarlyBaby does like this product for his boy who is also a silk. It is possible I didn't give it a long enough run, ie; enough shampoos. Also vellus for about$20 has a sampler pack. That is what I got. Oh and just to make things a little more tempting, I got 3 wks ago the IOD everyday dogs; Jasmine and vanilla silky coating brush spray. This one I absolutely adore the smell of which lasts for days on the coat. I mix it in with the conditioning spray. Not too sure why something that smells so fantastic is tooted as an everyday dogs spray. The 8.4 oz bottle which is the regular size of the Isle Strengthen conditioning spray has lasted me about 8wks. With three dogs in the house I tend to go through a lot of product, so while I'm pretty well stocked, umm I can always find room for another bottle of two The other thing I've done is to donate to my shelter my partially used bottles of s&C that I will no longer use.

| How is their detangling spray? Does it really work? I'm currently using John Paul Pet's detangling spray and I like it, but I'm always on the look out for anything better. Thanks.

| Thanks Gemy, I think I'm going to have to give it a try. I need to create a list of all I need to order and get on it. I'm currently useing CC and I like it fine. But, I always look for something I like better. I too take the ones I'm no longer using to our shelter, along with beds, clothes, dog food, haha. We change so often, it's ridiculous. haha.
