| Louis keeps peeing on his belly What can I do to keep this from happening? His hair is long, and he has the "pee string," but every time he goes potty he comes back in smelling of pee. I know shaving his belly would prevent it, but I would like to keep his hair long. Any suggestions?

| I don't have the answer, I just wanted to let you know that I have the same issue with Buddy. I read on here (someplace) that you should wash the area with a wash cloth every day. Since I have been doing that the smell is much better. I love the long coat but I HATE the smell. Good luck. |

| My little girl has this problem too, the long hair gets wet and starts to smell. I have just been wiping her with a wet wash cloth daily, it seems to help. If it gets real bad we head for the tub. Can't cuddle with a baby who smells like pee. yuck |

| I wonder if they make certain wipes just for this problem?

| when I groom Hot Rod, I angle the hair on his wee wee. I don't know if this does the trick but I don't have that problem. I keep baby wipes aound so I can grab one for wiping faces and paws when I need to. use the unscented ones. Good luck.

| Hopefully this doesn't sound stupid, but what do you mean "angle" the hair? Do you use clippers on him?

| Wet wipes work well. I keep a box of wet wipes by our patio door so Zeus gets wiped before he comes in. Can't you shave down only his belly area and keep the rest long? |

| I am afraid that will look funny if I just shave his belly.

| Yeah I suppose it might look odd. Wiping him often should really help. |

| I've always kept my males with a long coats and shave their bellies all the way up to the rib cage. I also do not leave a pee string as I had more messes and problems with them. Very easy to keep clean. You can't tell really their bellies are shaved with long coats as the hair on their sides hide the view of their tummies anyways. I don't think the belly hair grows as long or as fast as the rest of their coats so it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in appearance. |

| I also shave part of my boys belly, about halfway up... if they hair on the sides is long, you cant even tell the stomach area is shaved... I also use a washcloth to clean his stomach area at least once a week and bathe him every other week and that prevents any smell at all.

But yes, she shaves basically down all the way... you see a tiny bit of hair still but not much.
