| Natural Gel for Yorkies I am reading a lot in this forum about grow out problems as well as cuts that took place below the eyes, around the nose area. Then the hair grows and pokes up, being extremely annoying while we wait a year for it to grow out. I searched and searched for a gel to use on my pup so to get past this stage. (she had a really bad cut prior to my getting her and had this problem) What I did was I got flax seeds and water. Brought to a boil and set aside, then strained into a jar. I leave it in the fridge and make a new mix weekly. It works perfect. Is all natural, non scented and sticks! So forget those gels that sometimes cost a fair amount but are often scented and contains chemicals and make your own that your Yorkie will better approve of! |

| What a neet idea. I like something that doesn't contain any chemicals too. I will have to remember it. Do you use the whole flax seeds or do you grind them?

| Natural Flax Seed Gel I get whole flax seeds. I put about three tbsp per 1.5 cup water, bring to a boil for a minute or so. Then strain with a strainer into a glass jar. let cool and put in the fridge. Works great but be sure to make a new mix weekly. I used to make a lot because I used it on my own hair too. Can make less for the Yorkie however. You only need a little on the finger tips to apply. I part her hair where I want it to be and apply close to the roots rather than just applying it to the top of the hair. This way I get a better hold. Experiment with the ratio of seeds and water. You want a decent thickness of gel. Once cooled, in the fridge it will gel more. So either put a bit in a dish and let get to room temp or add a tich of hot water and stir so to mix and loosen the gel enough to apply. It is very slippery, like egg white. In fact the recipe above can be used as a substitute for egg whites in some cooking recipes. Not for say a lemon meringue pie however but is a great substitue. For our Yorkie's Gel too! |

| Natural Yorkie Gel You are very welcome. I hope that your Yorkie(s) approve. I wouldn't use anything else myself because it all smells and to find if my Yorkie would approve, I'd take her with me and let her sniff the options. If she turned away, I wouldn't buy it. Besides that I am not into the chemical factor. This way it is all natural. If I want her hair to hold all day, I have to reapply during a second grooming by evening. |
