| Need advice for top knot training Hello all! I am sure this has been posted and asked on these forums many times and I am sorry if it is redundant but I couldn't find the answers to my questions looking back through the archived posts. Anyways, my little girl (Lorelei) just turned 5 months old. I have recently started training her to wear a top knot. One of my questions is did I wait too long to start training her? Her hair is just now long enough in the front to pull back into a grooming band, but I couldn't find an approximate age in which someone should begin training their pups to have a top knot. Also, do ya'll have any tips as to how to put a top knot in her hair? Lori's hair is really silky, and she doesn't like much when I pull it up I try to put in a grooming band at least once a day. I haven't added a bow yet because I want her to get used to having it up before adding the extra weight of the bow. Is there any special items that would help in putting her hair in a top knot? I have grooming bands, and a little pair of grooming scissors to cut the bands out. I think some sort of gel would really help to get her hair all smoothed back, right now I am just using a bit of water on my fingertips. I am terrified that gel will get in her eyes but I am pretty sure that there has to be some sort of gel that would help keep it back/out of her face that would be safe to use. Thanks in advance for all your advice! |

| It sounds like you are doing everything right. It's always best not to rush into a bow, but get them used to the feel of a topknot with bands only first. If you are concerned about gels, you can use a little Chloesterol to slick the stragglers back. If she fusses when you first do her topknot, try giving her a bully stick or flossie right afterwards to distract her. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You didn't start as early as some...but don't worry she will get used to it. Here's a link to slideshow which shows you how to put up a top knot. The first link does not work, but the others do. Top Knots I use pet silk gel for the wispys. You don't need a lot so getting it in their eyes isn't usually a problem.
