Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | Oster Golden A-5 two speed clipper What are your opinion on this particular clipper? Anyone with experience? Pro(s) and Con(s)? I am looking to buy all the supplies to start grooming at home and need advice and opinion on the best clipper for the money. Thanks in advance.

| I know it was recommended by Susan who made the grooming DVD. I haven't purchased it yet though, because I keep mine in long coat.

| clipper I have used this clipper for over 25 yrs. I am on my second one..I was a full time groomer for some years. The only thing I miss about my old Oster is the cord was a very pliable rubber..the newer one is stiffer and gets in my way... I used to wrap the cord around the clipper when finished and it unrolled into a straight, flexiable cord...the newer one I have retains its coiled shape...I think I will tell Oster this..it is not an improvement in my eyes...but my clipper is 4 yrs old so the newest ones may be different. Otherwise if love it. |

| I just used mine for the first time sun & mon. We groomed my 5yr old & the 2 4mos olds. It's not very loud at all, my 4mos old was starting to fall asleep during the clipping. it does get heavy after awhile. The blades do get quite warm after awhile, but i have 2, so I switch them. For the other blade that i only have 1 of, i put it in the frige for about 10min to cool it off. the handle gets warm to our touch as well, but not warm enough to stop working. i did my 5 yr old in 1hr, he sits really well. we did the 2 4mos olds, in 2 days, we did smaller sessions being it's their first time being groomed, they didn't like it near their head or feet, but I think that will get better with time, and when they get older. I love it, it was the best investment i've made in a while. I bought it on amazon, like a month ago, and i found oster has a 15% rebate if you spend over $100. Good luck.

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | wow sounds like this clipper last pretty long...and a lot of people truly love their clipper...i guess i am going to take a jump at it...i am tired of taking my 6 dogs to the groomer...it gets pretty expensive...a matter of fact the clipper would pay itself off after just 1 grooming session for 4 of them...hehe...so i am going to purchase it...hehe..

| for one dog or a busy grooming shop? The Oster Golden A-5 is a great clipper if you are trying to de matt dogs, have to clip through thick coated breeds like cocker spaniels and such...but if you are just grooming your own dogs at home, and they are yorkies...then the 2 speed is really not the clipper for you. The single speed would be just fine. The 2 speed will work, but you do not really need the second speed (higher RPM's) . JMHO as a long time groomer. Sue & Cricket |
