Default Help

I know it was bad of us to hold off on the housetraining until we got warmer weather.. we are paying for it now. Hannah is almost 5 months old. The winter was so cold.. and she was so small.. Now .. we take her out and she runs around everywhere and plays .. but won't pee or poo.. As soon as she gets inside .. BINGO.. on the floor. What do we do ?? Is it too late ? Is she able to learn to go outside ?

i don't even think it is too late.. but i think you need to resort to training her like she is a puppy... i'd crate train... in her crate... with little to no room... let her out to pee.. if she done'st pee.. back in the crate... when you take her out i'd use a key word, we say "hurry up", i'd give her about 5-10 minutes and if nothing happens.. back inside.. .let her eat or drink... back in the crate... EVENTUALLY she'll have to go and will do so when you let her outside.. when she does go>> BIG PARTY!!! praise and treats and everything and a lot of play time outside! i think after about a few days of this.. she will get the hint.. if you catch her peeing or pooping inside... i'd make a loud AH AH sound.. to stop her.. tkae her outside... even if she just piddles a littlee. big party again! good luck! it's tough!

It's definatley not to late. When I got Pixie in late January she was not housebroken and she was 13 months old. I just treated her like a puppy and trained her on pads like Cali. I praised her and rewarded her with treats whenever she used the pads. She has accidents still but is 90% trained.

When you take her outside, you need to put her leash on and try and take her to the SAME spot each time. The leash will restrain her from being able to play, and make her focus on potty/poo. You might end of standing there for a long time, but be patient, walk around a little use a catch phrase (I use..Go Potty). After she does her business then praise praise, and then you can let her loose to play if you choose. Each time, however, you must leash her and go to that same spot.

good luck,

Kathy

I read a article that said to give a treat immediately when the dog uses the potty in the right place , I have an older yorkie that always got one when she came back in the door. Which the pup was doing.also, but not understanding really why. This helped the pup understand he was getting a treat for peeing and not coming back in.

Did she go on pee pads in the house? If so, maybe try taking a pad out with her and see if she goes on that. She will get the idea.

Also, if you try moving the pad closer and closer to the door, then take it outside with you, she might understand better. That's what I did with mine.
