Default Chewing

Today while I was at work my puppy chewed up my boyfriend's expensive leather shoes. He's really mad I think. Aston has tons of chew toys but always seems to want what he's not supposed to have. Besides being sure that nothing valuable is in reach, what is the best way to keep your dog from chewing anything besides his toys?

I have the same problem. Conner gets up on the back of the sofa and chews on the window sill. My husband said he is going to replace the sill when Conner stops chewing, but he is 14 months old and still chewing!!

Default Excessive Chewing !!

Bogey chewed on everything ( wood baseboards, furniture, etc.) until he was about a year old. I put deodorant on anything I didn't want him to chew on & it worked !! After he got over his "stage" I wiped the deodorant off the areas & he doesn't bother it anymore.

When I went to the beginners class at Petsmart, the instructor said of course don't leave anything where they can get it. We just have to make sure things are put away. I know that is hard, I have two children. Your dog doesn't know the difference of whats ours and his. My dog used to even be bad about chewing through cords. They sell sprays at Petsmart to spray on things to keep them away from things and not chew them.

There's a product called "Bitter Apple" that you can spray on things to deter dogs from chewing on them.

I am trying the deodorant since Pixie decided to chew holes in the walls this past week. I am also gating them in the back of the house to limit there space. Also, Cali chewed the zipper on my husbands good fleece jacket so I had to take it to the cleaners to get a new zipper in it, I can't understand my 2 are 16 and 23 months old and all of a sudden started chewing. The bitter apple didn't work with Cali.

When Miko was a pup and my husband left stuff laying around, I told him that it was not Miko's fault as he didn't know the difference yet and he was merely a pup. I told my hubby that if he doesn't want it chewed up, not to leave it around, not even on top of the coffee table. Eventually, it got better...And Miko learned not to get into things that he wasn't supposed to. They sell something called bitter apple that is supposed to deter dogs from chewing things...We've never used it, but I think you spray it on places that you don't want them to chew. Good luck!!

While they are gong through the chewing phasee you have to put up things you dont want them to chew. They do outgrow that. Mine are two years old and we leave shoes out all the time and they dont get chewed

Yup--gotta puppy proof their space same as you would child proof for a toddler.

Best to not give them a "taste" for things they shouldn't have before it becomes a habit trigger later on.

My girls are almost 5 months old now and chewing is their favorite pasttime. Just when I think I've taken all precautions they chew on the kitchen cabinet baseboards. I found little bits of what I thought was straw - but nope, it was wicker from my chairs in the sun room. Little monsters are like termites!
