Spike is a year and four months old. He was neutered at 6 months using a 'laser'. Here's the problem. This dog does nothing but mark all over the house!! I thought that was suppose to stop with the neutering!! He lifts his leg on everything from the kids backpacks, the couch corner, the refridgerator, I could go on and on...... He also poops in the house where ever and when ever he likes after just coming in from outside. He will pee outside also, so it's not like he has outside confused from the inside.....

We keep a belly band on him constantly except from when he is in his cage (by the way, he does not go potty in his cage and can hold his urine for hours!)

We adore Spike, but he is ruining our house!! We have another dog, a female Carin Terrier, who is potty trained and is also fixed. What is Spikes' problem?

This may sound stupid.....but I have to ask......is it possible with the laser neutering that things that were cut can 'grow back'?

Welcome to YT! I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with Spike. I don't think they've grown back, but I've heard that you're supposed to have them neutered BEFORE their hormones kick in which is at 4 months. Past 4 months, you run the risk of marking, as they've already had their macho man hormones running through them. That's what I've read and heard anyway, not sure how true it is, but as an observer I notice that is absolutely true. Maybe it's time to go back to the basics of potty training. You probably need to start crate training him or going back to whatever the basics are for you. Good luck!

no once the testicles are removed they dont come back. i would clean everything with a neutralizer and keep a belly band on him. Another thing i would do is take him for alot of walks so he could get used to marking outside. my Chachi marks outside when I take him on walks but not inside.

Since he was neutered after he reached sexual maturity it will be alot harder to break him of marking his territory. My Tobie was neutered when we got him. Thank God because had he started marking his territory in our house there is no way my husband would have let us keep him. I would keep him crated when you cannot watch his every move. Do not let him run the house. If you have standard doorways then try baby gates to block him off from areas you don't want him in. Of coarse my little one figured out he could jump it, then when we raised it he squeezed his little body under it. After catching him jumping it and swatting him with the fly swatter he got the picture.

My male yorkie just turned 3 years old this year, and I'm afraid it's too late for him as well. We have been told that we have, maybe a 50/50 chance of him straigtening out, but no guarantee. I have also been told several times that as long as you have them nuetered at 6 months of age, then you shouldn't run into this problem. My yorkie marks anything that's new in the house. I mean, even a walmart bag that falls on the floor, he feels the need to mark. This is my first, and will be my last male dog. I bought him at the age of 11 months, and unfortunately, he was still intact. I don't know what to do, as I have had him for a while, but my husband is fed up and is ready to kick him out! It was nice out this morning and so I left the back door wide open, and my dogs had gone out several times, and still I found 2 places in my kitchen where he had marked. I have a baby gate in the kitchen so that he can not go throughout the rest of the house.

I have two boys. They STOPPED marking when I made them some pee poles. I filled empty 2 litre coke bottles with water. I lay a piddle pad on the floor and set the bottle in the middle of it and drape it with another piddle pad! Now they hike there!!!!!!!!!

Please let me know how it works for you! It is just great with my boys and I forgot to tell you I also have two elder boys and they use the pee poles too when I am gone and cannot let them out!

I had my boy neutered and I have never had a problem with him marking in the house -- EVER. I would definitely not give him free run of the house -- confine him when you can not be there to supervise him. Take him for frequent walks throughout the day and make him wear a belly band while he's lose in the house. Good luck!

I agree - GO BACK TO BASIC - POSITIVE TRAINING.

Treats and Praises for GOOD POTTY BEHAVIOR. I would also set up an area with the wee wee pads, so he knows that he can go there to go potty.

You will be AMAZED - how a TREAT for GOOD potty will work!
