i just moved from michigan to texas a few years ago and texas is so much better IMO! yes, it is very hot but much more preferable than the 98 degree with 98% humidity weather we got in michigan (all that "lake effect")

honestly i think the grass is a little weirder here (more prickly and itchy) and there are weirder bugs (compared to what i was used to up north ) but all in all the mosquitoes in DFW are nothing compared to up north by all the lakes!

texans are really nice and friendly too!! and they actually do say "all yall" which i thought was some sort or urban myth

i have heard its better, and wisconsin is just like michigan. i really think texas is going to be the place for us. so if the dogs can handle it here they will be fine there?
i really dont want to move, we finally just got our first grandchild but as i said hubbys leg and back cant take to many more winters up here, we still have alot of research to do and need to fly down to look at areas. i know he said something about corpus christi was one of the places we are going to ck out. this is all scarry for me, we live in a small town and everyone know everyone so to move and know nothing is going to be hard.

Well I will tell you that when we got our camper, we traveled over 10,000 miles the first year....and never left the state of Texas. You wanna know about an area, I'll tell you. Texas has a little bit of anything you want from mountains to pine forest from desert and sand dunes to beaches. Just PM me if you have questions about a certain area. Good luck.

well,, if ya'll are thinking Corpus Christi area and small town,, think over across the bay,, to Ingleside or Rockport,, Rockport is really a nice area,,Ingleside is very small town, (or was a few years ago when we were there for a couple of years),, you can shop some in Port Aransas for daily things,, groceries,, walmart,,etc,, but then just drive over to CC and shop,, and ferry over at Port Aransas and be on da beach,, i liked it down there,,,and they rarely get hurricanes down that way,, though we were there thru Hurricane Brett,,, thankfully a small storm,,

corpus christi is beautiful and probably a lot warmer weather than up around DFW ... i can understand your hesitation...it must be soo hard to have your first grandchild and then find out that a different climate might be better for your hubbys health ... i am only really familiar with this area but i bet anyone who has responded on this thread would not mind PMs if you have any questions good luck in your decision - it is a huge one!

Default Southeast Texas

I've lived in Southeast Texas (what some people refer to as the arm pit) all my life.... been lots of places all over the world and wouldn't live any where else.... its hot, its flat, the weather changes daily (as in freezing temps one day and 80 degrees the next) ..... My yorkies do great here, lots of sunshine, green grass to play in, beaches to stroll, ect.....

Hubby is a football coach, so we have lived all over Texas. The Big Country is one of my favorite parts of Texas. (appx. 60 mile radius of Abilene - and 5 to 6 hrs. from the gulf, but) People are lovely, cost of living is great! The town I live in is absolutely Teacher Heaven - parents support schools and kids are super nice.

Well, no one has mentioned Austin yet, so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents! It is a happy medium between dallas and coastal cities, but is by far the most liberal city in TX. I moved from KS to TX and the change that I had to make was putting my dogs on flea and heartworm meds instead of just heartworm all year round. The fleas are overwhelming here, just because they don't freeze. But it hasn't ever been TOO hot for my pups, and they are happier because we can spend more days outside here than ever before.

TX is great, I hope you find what you are looking for!!!

I have a sister in New Braunfels, it is between San Antonio and Austin. Very quaint (sp???), lovely little town.
I am from NV and it is AMAZING how friendly people in TX are; people in NV are very abrasive.
The drawback for me is I cannot stand the heat!!! or the bugs. There are some huge, gross bugs there.
It is also weird when I go there as it is soooo flat and I live in a very mountainous area.
Sounds like you should rent an RV and go on a road trip.

I live in Houston and August and September are usually our hottest months. I have a Yorkie and he doesn't like the heat at all. He is outside for very short periods of time. I keep his hair cut in a puppy cut to keep him a little cooler. I lived in Illinois about 20 yeras ago and yes the winters are a lot colder there and summers are a lot hotter.
