| When threads get immature... There is a thread going right now called "How come no one told me" in General discussions, I have read through most of it (I did not post in it) and quite frankly it is embarrassing. It is constantly being posted in so it is at the top of the general discussions so newcomers could be choosing it as one of the first things they read here. The posts have gone from harsh and inconsiderate to outright immature. I wish threads that make the site look bad were removed before they reach 200+ posts. I have had a lot of help since I joined but if I had come across that thread on my first day I would not have bothered signing up. Not because people get nasty, that happens on every forum, but just because it has gone on so long...not a nice gesture to the original poster. So that is my suggestion, remove threads when the bickering starts before posters make fools of themselves and this great site. BTW, I love it here, I have had a great experience until coming across this post the other day.

| I too am new here and have seen this post. I haven't posted anything in it either. It is quite distracting when you are trying to read new posts and this one keeps popping up. Hopefully it will get removed. I stopped reading it after the first day because it is just getting ridiculous. With that said, I do love this site and have felt very welcomed by everyone here and look forward to learning all that I can about this awesome breed of dog. I do understand though how it could scare someone away if they were just browsing the site and read that post

| I never understand posts saying that threads need to be closed. Since you have to purposefully click to open a thread, why would you keep doing that if it offends you or bothers you in any way? We all have the right of choice -- if you did not like it the first time, why read through all those pages of posts to see what was happening? Just don't click to open the thread. There are many books in the library I do not like, do not agree with, and some I find offensive. I would not ask the libary to remove them. I just exercise my right of choice and do not check them out. I don't hold anything against the library. My choices might not be to another person's liking and I want to know my choices would still have shelf space. Censorship is a funny thing.....be careful for what you wish for.

| Here's the thing... when a person posts a new thread venting or asking advice, people are going to give their opinions... that's what a forum is about. Helping, giving opinions, and advice. Not everyone is going to sugar coat their answers to just make someone happy and not all those posts were harsh... a lot of people really wanted to help! I was one of them that tried to help. The point is, people are always going to say things that one person or another might not particularly like, but that's life. It happens. No need for everyone to get their panties in a twist. People got a little heated, because it was obvious that the dog was suffering and emotional distress and the OP didn't know what to do and people were just being honest.

I have to totally agree here... But if you researched, and found that this "poor lady" has been asking the same questions since April, And refusing ALL advice. It gets annoying. Nothing childish about it. Just plain and simple, Someone Obviously got tired of her childish annoyances. Sorry to sound cold, but after you see the same thread, repeating itself for several months, its hard not to get fed up with someone whom refuses to accepct advise, and still harass forum for their "ideal" answer.

IF we censored everything in the world around us, not only would that be a boring life, but we'd loose out on the rights that make us the most happy, freedom of speech. i know not everyone is from the USA with those listed rights, but the internet still runs on those principals as far as i know...we have the choices and freedom to say what we want, and to take it or leave it when we don't' want to read/hear it. besides, not everyone posting on that thread was a rude or hateful person, some of us really wanted to help the OP but she wouldn't take it as help she took it as an attack on her because she didn't agree with what we were trying to tell her...not my fault!! not only that, but posting another thread about this topic is just "opening a can of worms" and so i think it is completely immature of the OP of this thread to start another one and fan the flame and keep the fires burning on this whole thing to begin with...JMO had to add for those who know this old joke!!: once again where's my popcorn??? | I think perhaps you misunderstood the intention of Mary's request. Threads like that (which are continually being bumped up to the top of the thread list) can disuade newcomers from checking out the entire site, thus sadly costing them (and us) the benefit of being an active member of this site. She clearly did not say she keeps going back to it - her concern is for newbies who may be turned off by it. |
