HELP! Yorkie ate chicken Bone! I left Taina with my mother while I went to the grocery store, somehow she managed to find a chicken bone that must have fallen from the counter while my mother cleaned. Anyway, my mother checked on her and noticed she had devoured half of the chicken bone!! I called the vet and they said to just monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea. I feel so helpless, has this happened to anyone before? Any home remedies? I was supposed to feed her at 4 and have been so scared to do so, should I?

It looks like she will be fine. She's not chocking which is the main concern for chicken bones. They splinter and that's what causes the problem. If she appears fine I would think she is.

was it cooked or was it raw? The raw bone shouldn't be as much of an issue b/c there are people who feed raw food diets that incorporate chicken bones (necks, wings, etc). I would keep an eye on here just to make sure she passes it without a problem.

Her stools would become hard and compact and not be able to pass them, the bones can poke through her bowels intestines etc,,, Were they raw or cooked that makes a big difference. You will know if she cannot pass them ,for you will see and hear her in pain!

| I've heard of a lot of people feeding their furbabies chicken bones when they feed Raw, and they haven't had a problem. I'd just keep an eye on her.

Raw bones are fine and most can consume cooked bones and do just fine, but there is times they splinter and do not follow well throught the intestines and bowels then they can get stuck or worse preforate something. I was at my vets one day and a lady came in with this dog screaming and crouched in a hunched up position like she had to poop.My vet did surgery on her but it was too late they can really do some damage. Hope all is well and the little one is fine

Thanks for all the advice, it's been two days and no vomiting or diarhea. It was a cooked chicken bone, but it was pretty small and she only got to half of it. I'm praying she chewed it pretty well but I don't know. The vet said to overfeed so that the bones can stick to the food. I hope it helped. The only change I see is that she seems to be a bit more tired then usual...Thanks again

Sounds like she is ok....my yorkie got a cooked bone stuck in her throat (which we weren't sure of it at the time) but we knew something was very wrong. After 2 vet appointments we took her to the doogie hospital where it was diagnosed and sucessfully removed. You would definately know if she were having a problem.....pain or not herself would be a real give away. Hope she continues to do well Tina

she ate chicken bone. My yorkie is a year and a half y/o she managed to remove the soft bone and a bit of the chicken bones edge. Im worried she might not digest it well. Its been 2hrs since it happened. She still runs and barks. Will she be okay? How long would it take to know if she's fine? Please help me.
