| I lost my precious Yorkie My beloved 9 year old Mac died on Apr. 16. He was in good health except for his bouts with the reverse sneezing and "goose honking" due to the collapsing trachea. My daughter took him to the vet on Apr. 5. She came home with cough suppressent bills and antibiotics. I was not alarmed because he had had this before and he seemed all right. The vet called on Apr 7 and said he had dangerously low albumen levels. I brought him back the next day for blood work to test his liver. The vet called on Apr. 7 and said the liver was ok and so it must be intestinal. She said they could not biopsy him because he was too weak. She gave him more medicine (metronidazole liver suspension) and ordered special food (Purina HA Hypoallergenic) My husband went to get it on Apr. 13. As soon as he walked in the door. the office called and said it was the wrong stuff. The treating vet was on vacation and they could not read her notes. ( all the past week he ate almost nothing, and I kept giving he cooked egg whites and cottage cheese which he ate. On Apr 14, my husban got the correct food and Mac ate a little, but then refused it. Sunday morning I gave him egg beater, low fat bacon ,and avacado. He seemed to enjoy it. That was the last he ever ate. He had become weaker and weaker all week. I plannned to call the vet first thing yesterday, and insist he be hospitalized On Monday morning my angel was dead. I had an autopsy performed and they said part of his intestines were normal and part were very pale. His kidneys and liver were normal, his pancreas looked normal but was enlarged and he had retained a lot of fluid. They are sending tissue samples to be analyzed I know this is a long post but this was the first pet we ever had. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? How could he go from fine to dead in ten days. Did I miss something? Did the vet. I'd be very grateful for any feedback. |

| So terribly sorry to hear about your sudden loss. Our little girl is the first dog we have ever owned, so I cannot attest to any such experience. However, I will say that our neighbor had a cat that was about 10 years old and suddenly died with no symptoms beforehand. They found him downstairs in their family room. So it can happen. Things can go wrong internally sometimes and an animal's natural instinct is to cover it up. It's a survival instinct. So if a pet is acting ill, then something is really really wrong. |

| I'm so sorry for your loss of your beloved Mac. My heart aches for you. I don't have any answers, but I've read some other sad stories like yours where dogs have gone from healthy to very ill in a short time with no known cause. Sending hugs to you and I'll say a prayer for you.

| I am so sorry for your loss. I sorry I can't help you, I have no idea what would cause that to happen. Hopefully your vet will get the results back and be able to figure what caused it or what went wrong. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

| I just want to say how sorry I am for your loss. I know you will miss him terribly. Sometimes there are no answers. We lost our little Maggie unexpectedly, so I understand the pain. Sending up a prayer for you and your family.

| I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet can be as hard as losing a human loved one. I hope you get your answers soon.
