| Lump on spine! HELP!! I'm new to Yorkie Talk, my husband and I just got our baby Vinnie 3 days before christmas, we had him at the vet this past monday for his second and final puppy shots. Last night (thursday) my husband noticed a huge lump on his spine, equivalent to cutting golf ball in half and just setting it on his back. He's not in any pain and we gave him a bath to see if we noticed anything else and to get a true look at the size. We can touch it, and not to be gross but it's soft and squishy, definitely out of the ordinary though! It's up by his neck, definitely on his spine and i think about an inch away from where the doctor actually used the needle ( i think i found the exact spot, it's rough and further up on the neck) but even though he had shots 5 days ago now, would they cause a bump like that? it's huge and not red or irritated at all. Help...he's just a baby and mommy and daddy are worried! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Time to see the vet again - GOOD LUCK !! I've heard of them getting little lumps from injections - but not on the spine - I'd have your vet take a look - |

| it could be from the shot. sometimes it creates a lump that can be there for awhile. i am no vet so maybe someone else here will add more.

| Thank you! He did get a little bump the first time because the injection is just under the skin. This is definitely nothing like that, although I kind of feel like a paranoid first time mom, I refuse to wait it out! He's my baby and I would do anything for the little guy! |

| Mine get hard lumps from their shots sometimes but not soft squishy 1/2 golf ball lumps. Call the vet.

| Hi and welcome to YT! Have the vet look at it, just incase. Chanel does get a lump after her shots, but they are only the size of a grape, the vet confirmed it's due to the shots. Keep us posted Good luck. |

No Longer a Member | It sounds like an abcess, which, if properly drained by the vet, should not be a major health issue. He'll probably have to go on antibiotics, and it may have to be drained more than once (if that is what it is). Get him to the vet asap. Keep us posted. |

| Our vet told us that the lepto shot would swell to the size of 1/2 a golf ball sometimes. It would go away in a couple of days. It did.

| This started 4 days after the shots, and he started throwing up friday into monday. The lump is getting bigger and i found where he got the vaccine, the lump is about 1 1/2 inches down and it's on his spine, i know they didn't give him the vaccine in his spine. The vet won't see him until at least wednesday, but the little guy is in good spirits, still plays and everything. My husband got some awesome photos of him this weekend that i need to learn how to post, Vinnie is such a character! Thanks for all of the wonderful advice, it has really helped ease my worry! |

| It's most likely a lump from the vaccine but I would still take him to be checked out. Good luck. Keep us updated.

| Hannah got a big lump after her shots too. Her lump was also further down from the injection site but I think it is because the needle was about a inch long. Hers went away after about 5-6 days. I don't think that it is good that it is getting bigger though, maybe an abscess like someone else said. |

| The lump is getting smaller, of course it's been 2 weeks now, we have an appt. tomorrow but are on the verge of a massive snow storm, I don't know if we'll be able to take him. Thank you for all of your kinds words and advice, it really helped me a lot as a first time yorkie mom. He's such a loving puppy, I definitely want another when the time is right so that Vinnie can have a little buddy! |
