help!!!!!! Ceeby knocked his head hard - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I had Ceeby out about noon and he started running after the pug. he hit his head really hard on a part of the picnic table that hangs low. I was all the way cross the yard and heard it hit. He yelped and ran in circles for four or five minutes screaming. I couldn't catch him. It didn't seem to bother him after that except he has been afraid of the table since. he has been running, playing and sleeping as usual. About 5:30, I put his food down and he took one bite of it and threw up this nasty looking stuff. (might have been grass since he eats it all the time) then ran back to his food and ate heartily. do you all think he is alright. I know people throw up when they get a concussion or hard lick to the head but he hasn't thrown up anymore. I would have called the vet but it is after hours Plus, i spent my extra money on him last week at the vet when he was so sick with bloody diarrhea. Thanks

Why don't you check all his vitals to make sure he's not in shock? If you need help just ask.

Okay:

Check his resp. rate. Count how many times his chest rises in 15 seconds, then multiply by 4. It should be between 10-30.

Check his pulse. The best place to check is in the groin area by his legs (inner thigh). Count the pulse for 15 secs, then multiply by 4. It should be 100-160 per minute

If you have a thermometer, take a temp reading. Should be 100.2-102.8 F. If no thermometer, does he feel hot/cold/cool/normal?

Check capollary refill: open the dogs mouth and press on the gums. It should turn white when you press it, and then pink again in less than 2 seconds. This is to check circulation.

he is my wild one. he would never in a million years let me hold him still long enough to do all that. But, I just took them all out to potty again just now and he was running and playing all over the yard. I am going to assume that he is alright unless he throws up again. thanks for your reply.

Okay. Sorry I just ran out like that. I had a Squad call. 14y/o male possible dislocated shoulder.

OMG. I hope that he will be ok. I would just keep an eye on him and if he throws up anymore than I would contact a vet. Is there a 24hr vet anywhere you can call and see if they will give you any info over the phone?

Thanks to everyone for replying to my post. I had to reset my username and password before I could get back to you. Don't know why. anyway, Ceeby is still very active and eating extremely well this morning. He threw up twice last night 9stomach bile). Just a small amount. i found it this morning. Then I think he might have thrown up a little of his food while he was eating but if he did he ate it right back up. it was away from his food dish so I think he walked away and threw up. I have a call in to my vet. He is in surgery right now but will call ASAP. ceeby seems to be fine except for the throwing up.

I would be nervous about the barfing too... Let us know how it turns out.

The vet called back and said unless he barfs again, to just watch him and it sounds like he is okay. There has been no more barfing I am happy to say. What had me puzzled was that he has never stopped eating ( a lot) and playing. he is fine. Thanks for all your support. I am a retired nurse and the things the EMT said to do are exactly what I would have done with a person but a dog!!!! I never thought of it? DUHHHHHH. I guess they really are little people in fur.
