| Monty + Giardia + Bum Washing - Too much? From Mr Google... "Giardia parasites live in the intestines of people and animals. Before the microscopic parasites are passed in stool, they become encased within hard shells called cysts, which allows them to survive outside the intestines for months. Once inside a host, the cysts dissolve and the parasites are released. Infection occurs when you accidentally ingest the parasite cysts." Monty is on 3 rounds of 7 day on/7 day off routine of antibiotics to combat this parasite as the first round didn't take. He has completed the first 7 days on and is in the middle of his first 7 days off. My question ... I am being exceptionally diligent in cleaning him after EVERY bowel movement!! As well as swapping out towels and bedding linen (Yes I have taken to covering his bed in his crate lol - easier to wash a piece of blanket than the whole bed!) The idea isn't to kill the cysts, but to wash any off his fur that may be smeared from him pooing. I have been using Burt's Bees for Puppies 2 in 1 shampoo & conditioner. Pet Shampoos : Amazon.com: Burts Bee Tearless... I put his hind end into the bathroom sink and I can scootch him down low enough that I can rinse his wee bum under his tail and his back legs. My questions... He typically goes poop 3x/day and I am thinking maybe there is something else I can use that may be just as effective in the washing/lathering/rinsing process? I wash his whole body 1x/week as his skin is just a tiny bit dry the groomer said. Hmmm..... The groomer had suggested using some sort of chia product but I think that may have been a selling gesture more than my dog needs it gesture. It smelled too perfumey for me. His hair is more on the coarser side. Any ideas? |
