| So concerned for my baby Hi everyone I'm new, first post! Thanks for having me! My Yorkie Molly,2 years old is wording me with over a week now! One day she had her dinner as usual, nothing different, just chicken and veg! About half hour later she started to shake and just had that look in her eyes that told me something was up! I kept an eye on her and she was ok after a little while! Next day, same thing happened, again just after her dinner! This time though she was acting extra odd and was wondering away to be alone, even sitting behind the garden shed or in the end of a unit in the living room! Just very odd behaviour and also shaking again and like she wasn't with it! Got her to the vet who gave her meds for an infection as her temperature was up! She finished the meds and I thought everything was ok til today it started again!! I'm going to the vet first thing in the morning! It's just so odd! No vomiting or diarrhoea at all and she's not constipated and this just happens straight after her dinner!! I only feed her once a day and up til feeding time she's absolutely fine and being her cheeky little self! I'm not having any luck with Google but I have read a bit about liver problems with yorkies! I'm sorry this is long but if anyone has any experience of this with their babies I'd be so grateful of advice on what this could possibly be! I love her so much and I'm so worried for her! Thank you for reading! X |

YT 1000 Club Member | When you say you only feed her once a day, do you mean you free feed her? You fill her bowl once a day and let her nibble food here and there as she pleases? If your general vet can't seem to find the source of the problem, I advise you to find some type of specialist in your area. Maybe your vet or someone on YT in your specific area will be able to recommend one. Welcome to YT! Wish it was on better circumstances. |

| I would have my vet run a bile acids test. That can rule out a liver issue. If that is normal, you may wish to video it, and see a neurologist.

| Might try feeding her twice a day and see if it continues. I'm not a vet, of course, but it seems like most of us feed twice a day. Hope it improves!

| I agree with 107barney ... Bile Acid Testing is in order. You should mention this to your vet. Welcome to YT! Please keep us posted!

| I agree with everyone else.... Just checking - do you feed your little one once a day - and does that meal consist of just chicken + vegetables? Only my opinion - but that really doesn't sound like a balanced diet? Does she have access to kibble, or anything else besides? Oh, and welcome to you both! Sally + Harry

| Welcome to YT, I have always fed my dogs twice a day, once in the morning 7AM and again at 5PM, if they require a cup of food you split that in 1/2. 1/2 a cup in the morning, half at night. I agree with Harrysmum, chicken and veggies doesn't sound like a balanced diet to me either, some kibble should be given also. I would follow the advise of getting Bile Acid Testing and if necessary see a neurologist. Please keep us up-dated.

| Hello and welcome to YT. I'm sorry that little Molly is sick, I hope the vet visit goes well today and he/she does the necessary blood tests to check her liver and overall health. I agree with Harrysmum that chicken and veg alone doesn't sound like a balanced diet. If you choose to homecook it's important to supplement with essential vitamins and minerals. Adult doggies are normally fed at least twice a day, some do better with 3 meals but 2 is the average. Could you divide Molly's food and feed her morning and evening? I also have a 2 year old little yorkie girl and she gets 2 main meals a day (breakfast and dinner) plus she also gets a small snack at lunchtime or healthy treats throughout the day. If you need help choosing a suitable food please ask. Many members here homecook and can also help you choose kibble she might enjoy. My little one loves Lily's Kitchen kibble. I also feed raw (which has to be balanced too). The best of luck and please keep us updated. |
