| Warning! Milk Bone Dental Chews are Dangerous! Hi, I appreciate your site. It contains a lot of great information. I want to share with you my dog's experience with Milk Bone Dental Chews. This product should be recalled! I fed Ringo a chew on Fri and then another one on Sat before I went out to dinner. When I returned he was throwing up liquid and seemed a bit lethargic. I kept an eye on him over night but by the morning he seemed worse. He was dry heaving, panting and refusing to walk. Obviously in a lot of pain!I took him to the vet where they determined he had a blockage in his stomach that was causing great distress and could be fatal! He was is serous danger of aspirating or if the blockage passing into the intestines creating serous damage and very likely life threatening! He went into surgery and they removed the Milk Bone Dental chews. The 2 bones were broken into 5 pieces that were still as hard as if they had just been taken out of the package! They did not disintegrate at all! Please post this information where ever you can and make sure everyone you know boycotts this product! Ringo is slowly recovering. Thank you, Anna |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Have you or your vet contacted the company? Are these the ones you gave? Milk-Bone Brushing Chews Daily Dental Treats, Small/Medium Value Pack, 14.14 oz - Walmart.com Did you use the mini size? This is such horrible news, they have been given the (VHOC) Seal of Acceptance and shown effective for reducing tartar, but it sounds like they aren't completely digestible. Thanks for the warning, and glad you were able to take Ringo for help right away. Hope he has a speedy recovery!

| I have always made their "bones" but did buy these Milk Bone chews and my girls got very sick......vomiting & diarrhea. Thought it was because I never feed them commercial dog food or treats. Maybe not after all. I do know I won't take anymore chances with feeding anything other than what I cook for them.

| I still am not 100% sure but I THINK these milkbone chews may have upset Jackson's tummy too, but it could've been other factors. A few months ago, Jackson had an upset tummy and threw up 3-4 times throughout one weekend. It's really rare for him to be sick like that, he has always been able to switch foods easily, etc. But the two things I had done different were feeding the Rachel Ray canned food and feeding MilkBone dental treats. I went to open a new tub of the RR food (I had a box of 8 of them) and the food smelled NASTY, it was like rancid and just... not right. So obviously I threw it away along with the rest of the box. But the ones he HAD eaten were *not* rancid-smelling. It was odd because all the other tubs of food 'smelled' fine and he HAD eaten the RR wet food in the past. But the only two things I could attribute it to was those, so we just stopped feeding both and never will again to be safe. I was prepared to take him to the vet but once we stopped these and he ate chicken/rice for two days, he got better. So basically I still don't know if it was the milkbone chew or not. It's a shame because, like Nancy said, I liked that they were VOHC approved, but he didn't seem to like them all that much anyway. We do Dentastix and he also gets Purina Chews (also VOHC approved). No problems w/ those.

| yes, those are the ones. I contacted Milk Bone. They will be sending me a retrieval packet for me to send them the contents of his stomach, forms to fill out and will be contacting my vet. My dog is still having a very hard time recovering! if you look online you will find many other dogs have had this same issue from Milk Bone Dental chews! |

YT 500 Club Member | Oh no, I give my little Ruger one every day after brushing his teeth. I don't let him have it by himself. I hold it & let him bite off pieces. Anyone have thoughts that not letting their babies have it by themselves would help this problem.

| Didn't agree with my dog. Thanks, I agree that these things are not good for your dog. I had given Jessy these before with no problem. This past weekend I purchased a new box of them. I gave Jessy one and next thing I know he is wanting outside where he threw up. I didn't think anything of it until at bedtime I gave him another one. I went in the living room to get something and there it was..he threw up again. Needless to say the new box met the garbage can. I'll never buy them again. Anyone know of a good treat to give our dogs...preferably made in the USA. |
