| Growth on his head My 8 year-old Male Yorkie has a growth/lump on his head. It started as as very small spot a few months ago, now it feels bigger. quite a hard lump, like when you rub your finger over your knuckle (hope this makes sense). I you touch it he's not bothered so it doesn't hurt or bother him. The vet examined him and said the only way to find out is to have a lumpectomy. First I don't like the idea of him having a general anesthetic and second, surely there is another way to find out what it is without an operation. I'm unsure what to do. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. John |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Sorry your boy has a lump on his head. Since it is growing, it is best to have it surgically removed and biopsied to make sure it is benign. How old is your boy? You could combine the lumpectomy with a dental cleaning while he is under. Anesthesia is my least favorite thing to subject my boys to, but it is sometimes necessary. The risk is minimized with pre-op blood work and the proper anesthesia protocol: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-protocol.html

| I see that you indicated he is 8 years old (I needed more coffee). Now would be a great time to combine a dental cleaning with the lumpectomy.

| Can your vet aspirate the bump?
