YorkieTalk Newbie! | Need Prayers! I'm the owner of a 10 yo female yorkie. We call her Abby girl but her name is Abby. Over the last 10 years she's has really never had health problems until this July 4th. I knew right away that something was going on. She was lethargic, not eating, not playing with her toys... NOTHING. This happened with a 12 hour period. I didn't want to take her to the ER vet so I waited until the next day. We took her and the vet asked to keep her so he could run some test. Me being a Nurse Practitioner informed him of test I thought she should have. Bad news came later that day... Her PLT count were 29,000 (normal 100,000-300,000) and her WBC was 1,900 (normal 6,000-7,000). I immediately thought of some form of malignancy. Since all this happen she's had a blood transfusion, vitamin K, vitamin b12, subcutaneous fluids, baytril (IM and PO) antibiotics. She ate once today and has been drinking water well. No BM in 4 days. no abdominal distention. She's still resting most of the day. The vet is sending her to Tuskegee veterinarian clinic in the morning. Oh, abdominal x-rays looks abnormal but he can't really tell what the problem is. So, I'm sure you all can imagine how devastated I am. She resting next to me in bed as I write this. I want to cry so bad but I've cried too much already. Please give us some prayers for tomorrow. I would love for her to be around 3-4 more years. Thanks in advance. Nite...sweet dreams.Sincerely,

| Praying for dear sweet Abby. I see you are in Columbus and are taking her to Tuskegee. May I ask why your vet recommended Tuskegee instead of Auburn? From everything I know, Auburn's vet school is one of the top in the country. Just curious because I've never seen Tuskegee recommended. Hope you get some rest tonight. Hugs to you and Abby.

YT 2000 Club Member | I am sorry that Abby is ill. I pray that they find out why she isn't feeling well. My little girl Tameka passed last fall and she was 10 years, too. We never did find out why she couldn't keep food down. Best of luck, hugs and prayers!

| I have a medical background, but when it comes to my pups I rely on my vets. Honestly, if I were you, I would have her at a board certified internal med internist immediately. Whether at a vet school or another hospital...but I don't know that I would be comfortable waiting. I will keep you and Abby in my thoughts and prayers.

| I agree with Mandie's Mom. If you are in Columbus, why not Auburn Vet School/Hospital. I have used it several times and have been very satisfied with their services. Also had a friend whose dog had brain surgery there and lived 11 years afterwards. Just wondering. Praying for Abby.

I concur....and you being an NP, you know we in medicine like to practice crisis prevention as opposed to crisis management.....I would go post haste to the board certified internal medicine vet, then go from there...I tend to hang around vet schools when I have a very sick pup....I have heard the very best things about Auburn Vet School....I think I would want to know why your vet selected the other over Auburn.....it may be simply because it is closer to where you are???? That is the other great thing about your being an NP....you are not intimidated by docs and will ask appropriate questions and make sound decisions on your own, rather than just go where you are told, do what you are told to do, etc....I am also praying for your precious little girl.....breathe deeply, and dont jump directly to worse case scenerio first, like I always do! | |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog My prayers for little Abby. It is heartbreaking when our precious Yorkies get sick. Abby has been so healthy. Sounds like you are getting top treatment for her and the rest is in the hands of her Creator . He hears all our prayers and wishes for her complete healing. |
