| Yorkie with dry spots looks like Cradle Cap My friend has a yorkie that has these dried spots on his back only. The vet doesn't know what it is but suggested changing his food and a new shampoo. It doesn't look like it is an allergy condition but that is how the vet is handling it. I think it is from the dry weather and sun exposure that has caught up to him. He likes to be outside and he spends most of his time playing in his huge yard. Any ideas? |

| He needs Omega 3 fatty acids for one. She could buy the Omega 3 gel caps from the vitamin store. Ask if she would be willing to cook up and nice marbled pot roast in a slow cooker or pressure cooker & feed him some of that with some green beans & fresh grated carrots. Next, he should be bathed in an oatmeal based shampoo, then do a hot oil treatment just on his back then apply a conditioner, wait a couple minutes & rinse. I truly believe that dogs who eat commercial dog food do have skin problems if they are not getting the fats from another source of food.

| It is hard to tell from the picture but, could it be ringworm? Our rescue had crusty places on her and the Vet said that they would probably go away when we wash her. Well, it appears that it was ringworm.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'd be worried about ring worm - in dogs, it's not a ring - but it does sorta look like cradle cap. Marcel caught ring worm from his previous vet. To diagnose it, vet has to grow culture out for 10-14 days, and scope it. If positive, they usually do fluconazole x 6wks - then do another culture to assure it's gone. Did the vet do a scraping? At least then they'd know if it was bacterial. Let us know how it goes !

| chloe had one on the top of her head when I first brought her home. If was flaking and did remind me of cradle cap. I tried to part the hair at that spot and put vitamin E oil on it daily....and when I would bathe her, I would scratch the dry part off of it without inflamming it or causing it to turn red.....eventually it went away.... |

| Yorkie with dry spot looks like Cradle Cap I have suggested to her the Omega 3 I give it to mine daily also about an oatmeal rinse inbetween baths. Also I suggested using vitamin E when bathing to help get some Vitamins back into his skin. I also suggested keeping him out of the sun if she is using the vitamin E on him so he doesn't burn. He loves to go out around the pool with them and is always in the yard a lot with them. |
