| HELP! My girl just teared her nail off! We were playing ball with her and it looks like one of her nails caught on the carpet and it came right off and she won't stop bleeding! we took her to the vet and they put some chemical to cauterize and gave her a shot to prevent infections but we came back about an hour ago and now the blood is starting to show thru her bandages and it's after hours and the vet's office is closed now. Does any one know how to stop the bleeding? |

| Ohh your poor baby. mg: A septic pencil will stop the bleeding. Everyone should have one in their medicine cabinet. I do hope she is doing better.

| Styptic powder; flour; pepper. These things will work. Did the whole nail come off or did it just tear it back into the quick?

| they also have a septic powder or pad ..... is the bandage soaked completely in blood??? If it isnt then i suggest leaving the bandage in place, the blood needs to coagulate and changeing the bandages all the time can make it harder for her to stop the bleeding. . . . . |

| Baby powder should work. A cake mix would work. Bread would work.

| Thanks for all your suggestions. The whole nail came off. I think she's getting better. She's calm and the bandages are not completely soaked, the blood is just starting to show. I think we'll leave it as it is, and unless it gets really bad, we'll take her to the vet tomorrow morning to have the bandages changed. We don't really want to "handle" her paw too much because we could hurt her more. If it gets really bad, then we'll try some of your suggestions. Hopefully she'll be ok. Thanks again! |

| Cornstarch works, too. Oh, I'm really sorry about your little one. Accidents happen. Look into a first aid kit for doggies, so you'll be prepared next time (if there is one) something happens. OK?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | POOR BABY ! That had to hurt. I would ask your vet how to stop the bleeding ...nails bleed ALOT. When Chanels was cut too short by a vet near my house it didn't stop for almost an hour - and that was just getting clipped - Your baby lost her whole nail ? Ouuuuuch !! I hope she's going to be ok ! |

| Poor Baby! I am so sorry for her and you. FYI - pepper and Alum also works. My dad use to be in the Navy and that is where he learned about the pepper trick to stop bleeding and it works too. So even if you get cut - go to the kitchen and place a mound of pepper on it. No, it doesn't burn at all. T. |

| Thanks for all your nice words and suggestions! It seems she's doing better. Looks like the bleeding has stopped and now we have to keep her under control because she just wants to run and play! she doesn't seem to mind the bandages. Thanks again! |
