| Paw bleeding after walk? So for the past 2-3 days, I'd spot little bits of smeared blood on the kitchen floor. At first, I didn't make the connection but the 2nd day I realized this was happening AFTER our walk. Long story short, I JUST found the source and it's her back paws. I think it's somewhere in between the pad. I've started taking her on walk very recently with Magnus so I thought maybe the walks were too long. But today was less then 10 min but the bleeding still happened. It only lasts a short period. Is this somewhat common? Should I not walk her? Get her boots? Her pads don't seem dry (or at least I don't think it is...) so I have no idea what's causing this. Her front paws are fine... I'd appreciate any feedback. I'd just hate to leave her behind while Magnus gets to explore outside.. |

| Forgot to mention some details. She prefers walking on cement and is 6 months old. We did run a little the first two days and the walks were long (about 50 min to an hour) but today there was no running and the walk was less then 10 min. Quote:

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Maybe the first two long runs irritated her paws or she has a tiny cut. If she is still bleeding I would stop her walks on cement for a few days and maybe put a little vaseline on her back paws. If it doesn't stop bleeding soon I would have the vet take a look. Hopefully they will heal quickly.

| You may want your vet to have a look, she may have stepped on something and cut her foot. She may need antibiotics and a bandage to limit the flexing of her foot to allow it to heal properly. If something cut her foot it may still be between the pads, and will need to be removed.

| I really think you'll need to find the source of the bleeding. I bet she stepped on something that is still wedged between the back pads. Poor baby

| I just took a MUCH closer look at her back paws and I can see raw spots. I actually looked with a magnifying glass to see if I could see any cuts or anything stuck and didn't find anything. So as far as I can tell.. it's just raw. I'm including a picture... I'm still planning on taking her to the vet tomorrow to make sure. It's just weird it's only the back paws and the location of it... Maybe the walk was way too long for her on the first night. I never thought long walks could cause this sort of issues... |

| Her paws will do that until they toughen up or you use something for them. They have very soft pads and when you walk them on a road/concrete it will tear up their little paws and the sensitive skin between. You wouldn't see this if she was walking on grass as it isn't rough. Is she young? It seems to happen with the younger ones more. My cousin has a maltese that she took on a walk on the road for the first time. Poor little guy came back with bloody paws as his little feet just weren't use to that roughness. Try using this... Mushers Secret-all season paw protection for your dog You put it on their paws before going for a walk. It forms a barrier that keeps their paws protected. It is all natural and completely safe. It also protects them from the heat when cement gets hot from the sun.

| I would put little socks on her those feet to protect them until it heals.

| I'd just run her to the vet to see if she needs antibiotic cream or something. Poor baby - that's got to hurt. I know if my feet were bleeding it would hurt. Hope the little sweetie gets better really quick.

| I agree with the vet visit. That looks raw and irritated. I know from experience - that any damage done to the pads of their feet can be really hard to heal. Poor baby.

| Like others said i would visit the vet first to find the source and see if she needs any medications. Then- I would contact alldogboots and get that girl some little booties to protect those paws.

| Hi everyone~ Been a while but just wanted to update. Zoey's doing great and her paws are all good. Vet said she didn't need any special meds on her but I should get her some booties or other protection if I'm planning to keep walking her. I took MyTrixie's suggestion and bought the musher's secret. I received them today so haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thanks for all the suggestions! Also, I think it's the way she walks/runs that causes her back paws to get all raw like that... She seems to push off with her back lets a lot. |
