| If it's serious enough to hospitalize for five days, her food will need to be changed. Your vet may put her on an rx diet. Sometimes it justhappens for no apparent reason and others there is a trigger...usually a piece of fatty food.

| Pancreatitis is a tough one! We just got over it with Barney. We had to change his diet to a very low fat home cooked diet and now he is doing great. I hope your baby gets better soon.

| Unfortunately, Yorkies are one of the breeds prone to pancreatitis. As Crystal said, even one little piece of fatty food can trigger an attack. Often table scraps are the culprit. I'm sure your vet will recommend a special diet. Not only is pancreatitis very serious by itself, repeated bouts can cause diabetes. |

| I hope your baby gets better soon! Uni is just over an episode of pancreatitis (first time), I gave her too much lamb, too rich for her. YTer yorkiepuppie told me about a new food Honest Kitchen. The beef formula (Verve) only has 7.5% fat. Or the Preference has no meat and you add your own low fat meat and that is only 5%. Uni loves it so much and she is such a picky eater! You have to rehydrate it, and let it stand for 5-10 mins and she cries for it while she is waiting! She has never cried for any type of food before!

what are you feeding? Did you give her anything recently different in her diet? My dog is doing well now for 4 years after having it so we can all try to help you get through this Hang in there and let us know a little more info and we can try to help you figure out what might have happened. My dog was on a low fat diet at the time but it was white potato based and after a year of trying to figure things out we came to the conclusion he had ibd in small intestines and cannot eat white potato diets as that inflamed his small intestines and set off the pancreas. He was two years old when it happened How old is Maggie? Pancreatitis runs in this breed so it happens and many of us have been through it stress can also trigger it so has there been anything stressful recently? here is some info on pancreatitis http://www.petplace.com/dogs/acute-p...ogs/page1.aspx Last edited by dwerten; 06-24-2010 at 05:20 PM. | |
