| unexplained sickness my yorkie got sick and the vet is stumped. fine one minute and vomiting , loose bloody stool , and sort of past out the next. now after 4 days in the hospital he can't walk and we think he could be blind. we are so upset and don't know what to do next. anyone who has had a similar experience we would take any advice at this point. |

| I'm sorry you are going through this and I don't have any insight to offer you. What is your dog's name and how old is he? |

| Is your dog with an internal medicine specialist? is blood work showing anything out of normal range ? Blindness and not walking makes me think neurological issues so i would go to a hospital that has an internal medicine specialist along with neurologist so a team of specialists can work together to figure out what is wrong if your vet is stumped where do you live? the blood work would show toxins by ALT, did they check for tick disease in blood work add on due to not walking. If this were my dog I would be at a university vet school or a specialty hospital immediately Last edited by dwerten; 05-19-2010 at 12:18 PM. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Has he been bile acid tested? Liver shunt can present with those symptoms.

| Oh boy! I agree with the others. If he isn't already at a Vet University Teaching Hospital or at a Speciality Hospital, that's what I would be arranging to do... Please keep us posted |

| His name is Murphy and he is almost 10 months old . We brought him home today and exercising his legs so they won' get stiff. He is showing a little improvement , but only a little. He will perk up his ears for us. They still do not know what is wrong. We hope his blindness will be temporary. We will pray he will get better. |

| Murphy's did not have any recent vaccines, but all his shots were up to date. His glucose levels were down quite a bit.We thought at first it was a bee sting. But he didn't have the symptoms of that.Thank you for your input. |

| If this pup has been having bloody diarrhea and vomiting for 4 days, he really needs to be on IV fluids and supportive care in the hospital until an answer is found. While he's at home, be sure to keep him warm, and offer him Nutrical and water every two hours if he's still vomiting.

| We took him to the vet school in Raleigh and they did a spinal tap and found he had meningitis. He is on lots of meds and now we just wait and see if he will respond to them.SAY A PRAYER FOR MURPHY. |
