| tums in the tummy My 8 pound yorkie ate about 45 Tums yesterday. I took her to the animal hospital and they treated her but told me that if she is not able to expell the tums, it could be dangerous. They gave me laxitive but it's not working. Any suggestions for a home remedy that could help her go to the restroom? |

| Why didn't your vet use charcoal to induce vomitting? I'd be calling another vet ASAP |

| How long since you gave her the laxative? Was the laxative oral or suppository (icky details, I know!)? Maybe it just hasn't kicked in yet? It is great that you already took her to the animal hospital. What a good mommy! |

| pumpkin is a natural fiber so if given too much makes them have diarhea and a little bit stops the diarhea up but i would take in to vet -- i know tums are high in calcium but other than that do not know that much about it - I know they give tums at ucdavis as part of diet 5 per meal so that is a real high amount your pup ate |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I can't believe they didn't give her peroxide - 1 tsp. at a time - until she threw up. If she had ingested it some time before, then the pumpkin for moving it through.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How is this baby? I'd be concerned. Consuming that many Tums could really mess w/ her acid/base balance - systemically, and this would not be good. Perhaps call the ASPCA poison line.

| she's better! =) sorry for the delay in responding, i'm still trying to figure out how to use this site. thank you for all the responses.princess is doing better she went to the bathroom this morning! i've been in contact with my vet daily since i took her to the hospital. the vet told me that she thinks that princess has passed the tums already based on my description of what she expelled this morning. she said that i should watch her closely until her 'poo' looks normal. if it's not normal looking by tomorrow, i'm taking her in for another xray. btw...in case this ever happens to any of you...i called the animal hospital when this first happened and they told me to call animal poison control. when i called them, they told me to go to the animal hospital and gave me a case number so they could call them for a treatment plan. when i got there they did an xray and they could tell that there was nothing in the stomach and that's why they didn't induce vomitting. it was all already in the intestines. so, they gave her subcutenious fluids and some medicine to coat the stomach. they also gave me a liquid laxative to give at home. yikes! this was scary! |
