Can I EVER catch a break?!

So, I followed my instincts and took Willie to the vet on Monday. The 2 vets there cannot figure out what is wrong with him. They came to the conclusion that he's got something similar to "fading kitten syndrome". Basically, he's going backwards instead of being how a thriving, happy 9 week old Yorkie should be. They've treated him for all things it could possibly be, but nothing is working. He just lays around, doesn't eat, sleeps all day, no drinking (besides what we have to physically syringe into him). They think something internally is wrong and he didn't develop fully while he was in the womb and that he is on his death bed. We are getting ready to take him back to the breeder right now. I feel sooo horrible because he is the cutest little thing but I just don't think that there is any hope for him. I actually don't think, I know.

I cannot believe that this is happening to me after less than 2 months ago my little Lacey passing away. AHHHHHHHHHH...it just seems like one thing after another right now and I'm so damn frustrated that I can't even think. My heart is breaking, yet again.

You poor thing. That is absolutely heartbreaking. I don't have anything to add about your poor boy, I am not familiar with that diagnosis but I wonder if he would pick back up if he had a few more weeks with his mommy? Nine weeks really is too young to be away from mom. Could you take him back for three or so weeks and re-evaluate then?

I am so sorry you have to go thru this. It really isn't fair that you have to deal with this so soon after losing Lacey. Hopefully this will be the end of bad luck for you, and things will turn around and give you a chance to heal and move on. It is so frustrating when things are just out of our control.

This was my first thought also. I hope he comes around once he's reunited with his Mom.

My mom and I drove Willie back to the breeder last night, I'm so happy that I did because I don't think he would have made it through the night. Yesterday while we were at the vet, he just had a look his eyes, and I feel like he was failing to thrive, just because he wasn't gaining, and clearly was taken waaaay before he should have been. I wish I would have taken a picture, his face was emaciated and sunken in; just awful. His behavior for the last week was that of an old grandpa dog on his deathbed.

Anyway, as we were pulling into the breeder's driveway my mom said, "Wouldn't it be funny if he perked up for these people when we're trying to show them how bad of condition he's in?" And as if he was touched by God's hands at that very minute, you would have had to see it to believe it, when I put him down on the floor with his sister...from the same litter (which by the way she was the runt of the litter and was at least TWO times his size last night), he TOOK OFF RUNNING. He NEVER ran in the 3 weeks I had him. He climbed 4 steps, ate HARD food (again, NEVER done), and drank water. I've never seen anything like it in my entire life. He missed his mother & needed her. I'm no fool, I knew from the get-go he needed at least 2 more weeks with her, yet I selfishly wanted him as quickly as possible.

So, I just hope & pray that she and Willie's mommy can get him back to health. I actually left him and brought his sister home with me last night, I think I'm going to name her Missy. She's so cute & she is doing everything that a 9.5 week old puppy should be, running, barking & getting into everything. Willie just wasn't. I'm going to be in touch with the breeder throughout Willie's recovery and if he makes a full turn-around, I'm going back for him too. I just love that little guy & after seeing last night, I feel better about taking him back, he absolutely, ABSOLUTELY needed his mother. Even though it hurts my heart, I know that I did the right thing.

I am glad you took the male puppy back to the breeders. If he was only 9 weeks, and you had him for three, then he was only 6 weeks. You are absolutely correct, he was way too young to be away from his mother and littermates. 12 weeks is the reccomended age for a Yorkie puppy to leave . my concern is why take anther pup at this age? When you have already been through this with the male? He could have easily died. Perhaps, waiting anther 2 1/2 weeks would have been a lot safer, and better decision . I know it is difficult to wait until a puppy is old enough, however, as you know, it makes all the difference in the world.
I hope that the little female will be ok. And i believe that your going to be in contact with the breeder, and know the signs to look out for.

I have to agree on this one...
You done right in taking him back, but you should have waited and not brought his sister home with you. Even at nine weeks old that is still to young for a Yorkie to taken away from the mother. The breeder should have known better than to let the little boy go at six weeks in the first place. To me and mind you this is just my opinion, there is nothing more important than the health and happiness of my puppies. And taking them away from the dam too soon can cause all kinds of problems many of which the puppy may not recover from. I have never let one of my babies leave my home before 12 weeks and have been known to keep a couple of them until they were a full six months old just because I thought they needed the extra time with the dam. I hope all goes well for you with the little female, just be sure to keep a close eye on her for any kind of changes, even the tiniest one.

I almost hate to comment on this, but must say I agree with this too. As happy as you all seem to be at this time, I wish I was reading that you were going to be letting both puppies spend more time with their mom to get the extra assurance that all will be well.

This is a lesson we all can learn from.
