Mochi has hookworms So I took my Mochi who had been throwing up for 2 days since I adpoted him and he was neutured to the vet today and they ran his blood work and said that it looked pretty okay. He does have hookworms though and they said that could be causing the wheezing and vomitng. His liver function looked good in the intial bloodwork so they so far have not wanted to do a test for liver shunts and problems. Poor baby has hookworms! Yuck. He is dehydrated so they are giving him an IV and going to keep him there for a few hours. He might have to stay overnight if he doesn't stop vomiting and then they will have to do an x-ray to make sure there are no obstructions in his tummy that are making him throw up. I asked them about the trachea and they don't seem to think thats the problem, but they didn't really check, so when i pick him up I am going to make sure and ask about that again. So now my almost free dog of course has turned into the $500+ dog...isn't that always the way though? Poor baby I hope he can come home soon. Now I am going to have to deworm my other two babies just in case and scrub down my house wherever he pooed (which as far as I know was just one spot). Ewww worms gross me out SO MUCH. Now I am afraid they are going to burrow into my feet or get on me. Anyone have any experience with dogs with hook worms? Do I need throw away and or clean everything the dog has sat on/been in or do I just need to worry about where he pooped or threw up? He's only pooped in the house once, but he vomited in MANY places all over the entire house and on my carpet in my room upstairs.

| Poor baby.... glad they caught it and are treating him! Here is some info on hookworm infestation... http://www.sniksnak.com/doghealth/hookworms.html As for sanatizing after the fact... I'm not certain... I know that hookworms can live in the ground forever it seems - - - hopefully someone more experienced here will have an answer for you! Good luck with your baby!!

Oh poor little Mochi. As if he hasn't been through enough. I'm surprised that they didn't catch the worms at the kennel. Did they not even do a fecal on the poor baby? Jeez, I think you said they had him for a couple of weeks. You would have thought they would have noticed that something wasn't right if he was throwing up. You definitely saved him.

Awwww poor baby. If that's all that's wrong with Mochi be thankful. Hookworms can be treated and he will be good as new. I know it's sounds gross but it does happen. More often than not.

Mochi is back from the vet and I have to take him back in the morning. They said if he didn't throw up tonight then they won't have to do a chest ex-ray tomorrow and will take his catheter out (which I have to watch him like a hawk not to chew off)
