| ![]() Oh boy...I do not miss those days. TJ had the same problem. I was at the Vet every other day. Those noises, so loud. TJ wouldn't eat, he would just lay around sometimes all day 10 hours. Finally, he would poop, the first 1/2 inch would be 'normal' poop, then yucky, smelly, yucky, orangish/yellowish PURE GLOBS of MUCUS...then once that was out, he'd run to the food and he was fine, till the next day. We did everything you can think of, Medrozone (sp?) NEVER WORKED. Then we switched him to a special diet (Duck and Potato) - this made it better, but not gone for good. Then we did blood work. We found out that TJ had a bateria overgrowth somewhere in his small intestines. The Vet suggested Tylan Powder. This was the ticket! I had to give him a tiny bit of the Tylan powder everday for about 9 months or so. TJ has NO MORE Mucus poops. No more Tylan (for now) and he can tolerate eating anything! Do a 'search' here on yorkietalk for Tylan. You will find many of my stories ![]() Ask your Vet about Tylan powder! |

| ![]() Thanks Nicole...I will ask the vet about Tylan. Well I took him to the vet and just got back the results of his stool test...negative. ![]() I put him on a diet of rice and boiled chicken for a few days to see if it settles his tummy. He's got TONS more energy, but the poops are still runny - all that changed was the color (they're very pale now). Don'cha just love the graphic poop talk? ![]() |

| ![]() Day 3 on chicken and rice and we finally have a FIRM POOP! Fingers crossed that this can all be fixed with a diet change. ![]() |

| ![]() I think some breeders commonly deworm their dogs as a precautionary measure before the pup even leaves for their new home - do you have any record of Tetley having been dewormed? Oscar hadn't been dewormed (Ruthie had) so my vet strongly recommended doing it as a precaution since they can be passed on to people. I have the very same problem with Ruthie and her poops - seems like she'll go a few days with solid tootsie rolls, then out of nowhere she'll have a day or two of soft stools, then resume normal poops again - all the while acting perfectly normal. She's had her stool checked and everything came out fine. If I were you... I would get Tetley onto another brand of kibble (I had great luck with Royal Canin - others have not). I don't know if you're planning on feeding him a diet of chicken and rice from now on, but even if you're not, the longer you feed him 'the good stuff' the harder it may be to get him back onto kibble. Kibble is good for his teeth and has all the nutrients he needs - plus he should be on a good quality puppy kibble. Gradually introduce the new kibble to him so his tummy doesn't get more upset. Keep track of what he's eating - maybe avoid treats until you find out what his 'triggers' are. You can always give him individual pieces of kibble as treats throughout the day. Unless the drug your vet gave you actually seems to be working, I wouldn't really bother with it. Anytime my vet has tried to prescribe something for Oscar because of some loose poops, I've declined and it's always cleared up on its own. Unless your baby is having diarrhea - that's more of a concern. Good luck with little Tetley! The pic in your avatar reminds me of little Ruthie! What a cutie!

| ![]() Wow thanks just joined this forum and have learned so much. My little Selby has major tummy gurgles, breeder told me yogurt would help but failed to mention the part about sugar substitutes. Hope my little one hasn't suffered any major damage. She has major gurgles but is just fine. |

Here's an update on Tetley's tummy: after my last post he got bad again once I stopped the chicken and rice and so I went to the vet and got him some Tylan in tablet form. He took that for a week, twice a day, and his tummy got better but as soon as he stopped it he went right back to runny poops. So then I tried another diet change, and by golly I think I've got it! He's finally not having any more tummy issues at all! Here's what he eats 3 times a day: 1/8th cup Canidae, about a tbsp of shredded chicken breast, a tsp of Iam Chicken flavoured gravy mixed in, and a pinch of Missing Link. I posted another thread about being worried that this is altogether too much chicken ![]() ![]() | |
