Thanks for the GREAT tips. I will have to check to see what the cleaner all has in it - it's been so long since we had a puppy. I'm using Lysol Kitchen Cleaner - it's actually what we use to wash off our table and counters (it's safe and it doesn't need to be rinsed).

It's a great idea to bring the puppy by Angel when she's tired out (why didn't I think of that LOL). She sometimes falls asleep in our arms or laying on us...maybe we could bring Angel by her then.

I was planning on giving her treats only when we see her doing something great like going potty on the pee-pad. I think what I may do is break apart the treat and give her a crumb at a time (instead of the whole treat). I definitely don't want her "filling up" on treats instead of the nutritous food she needs. I have to admit it really freaked me out at first how small she is.

"Owned by Sassy" - what a cute name! My daughter also used her savings for the puppy. That's how we really knew she was serious. She is not a spender (at least not with her own money)! She has truly stepped up on caring for the puppy. She does everything - from feeding to mopping the floor and cleaning up the mess. She's doing amazing with Mariah. My husband and I took getting a puppy very seriously - we know it's truly like having another child!

I hate to sound so stupid but...what is an xpen? Is it similar to a crate only bigger? I'm wondering if that might be better then our bathroom in the long run. We want to keep her safe while we are not home with her. And until we potty-train her, I don't want her to have the run of the house.

I tried to attach pics - we'll see if it worked!

There are lots of different kinds, but this is my favorite. It doesn't scratch hardwood floors. Plus you can put shower curtain liners under the pens to totally protect your floors and use the bedding and piddle pads on top.

I too would recommend the Xpen. You will find it much easier to take care of the pup's needs and you will have peace of mind.

THANKS so much! The xpen is so cool! I think that would work really well in my kitchen. What a great idea to use shower curtain liners! I would eventually like to get my bathroom back...lol!

and we gave our puppies little treats from the start...just not too many...it helped SO much with the potty training!

Welcome..... what a cute little chub she is! Such a beautiful face too. I can definitely see why your daughter fell head over heels!

As for treats, if you really want something small that's not too filling, try Cheerios. We've used the plain ones but I've heard that puppies do well with the sweeter ones too - since they need that extra sugar sometimes. I was able to teach Tatum how to catch and return a small soft frisbee in probably under 30 minutes by using Cheerios.

Oh my goodness!! I might die! Your little girl is soooo cute! I have this xpen. I really like it. You can take off two panels and make it into a square too. That's what I do. I don't feel like he needs as much room because I'm home and he's not in there all day (most of the time he's in my lap LOL!) Unfortunatley, it looks like he's going to be able to jump over it soon. Hubby is going to fashion a top for it when this happens. Have fun with you pup. I love yorkies!

First of all.... Welcome Kathy. You will love it here, if you don't already. And your new little baby is a doll. We can all see why your family fell in love with her. What a sweet baby. Congrats! I have 3 yorkies and have alot of fun with them. Even when they bark at something outside, it just doesn't seem to bother me. (it may bother other people in my house, but not me)

Petsmarts is a lot more expensive than the ones we buy and they work the same
