This is very unfortunate and they sure sound like a puppy mill to me. Personally, I think it's much better to buy from a breeder within driving distance to where you live, so you can visit and see the conditions where the puppies are raised, meet the breeder in person, and see the puppies in person. My feeling is that it's cruel to ship a dog of any age if it can be avoided. Just my opinion...

thank you for posting. Hopefully someone who was planning on buying her pups will think twice about it.

As a breeder myself, I do know there can be no quarantee on weight however, if you know the parents and watch the growth.... you can always get a good estimate. Sorry to here that!

I am from Oklahoma and have seen adds from them many times! I am so glad I read this thread. I am so sorry for your problems but thank you so much for sharing and saving someone else from going through what you went though.

That really is terrible and I'm sorry that you had to go through that. That breeder was the scam artist.

I just got back from driving 12 hours to pick up a pup. The ad I responded to said Mother 2 lbs. 3oz, Father 3 lbs and the pup weighs "under 1/2 pound at 8 weeks" and I was getting an unpapered female for $600.00 - what a bargain! You've heard the line - if it sounds too good to be true it probably is - well, I get there - the Mom is 5 1/2 pounds, I didn't see the Dad, but according to her miscalculations he is probably 7 or 8 pounds! The pup was 1 pound 7 ounces at just over 8 weeks. Anyway, I asked for my deposit ($300.00) back and she didn't have it so I ended up taking the pup. We went to a vet there and they thought she might have an inguinal hernia so the lady said I could have her for just the deposit. I don't see any swelling anymore so maybe it was just a bite or something - I will see what my vet says when I take her for her next set of shots. She is now 10 weeks and weighs 2 pounds and seems to have large paws. I am guilty for wanting a ___cup (I didn't say it), but I can honestly say this one is so much healthier. My "Lacy" was only in the 3 pound range at maturity, but I spent about $1000 in vet bills in the first 3 months! I'm also wondering if this one might even be older than stated because she already knows where her puppy dish is, uses a doggy door, and will not eat soft food, only plain dry Eukanuba! Has anyone else's eaten dry dog food at 8 weeks????

I will post pictures soon - BTW this is the one I was getting with the undocked tail - I love her tail. It looks so natural. I can't believe I thought that a docked tail looked more natural now that I have her.

Thank God the mother wasn't 2lbs. Only an awful person would breed a 2lb dog.

It's funny that you are talking about a ___cup with large paws. When I went to the Pet Expo in Jersey there was a 1 year old yorkie who was really tiny, but his paws were HUGE. I wonder why that is?

I was just reading this and sitting here thinking to my self, "man it sux how so many breeders are taking people just for their money and don't care one bit for their pups." This is not the first time I've heard a horror story like this one, but I'm glad to have this so called breeder's name out here now. That in itself will maybe help someone in the future.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement...I may very well continue to let others know about the Chaffins (I've actually received a couple of private messages of people who have had terrible dealings with the Chaffins as well...) I guess I should also post my story on the breeder's review link.

I'm sorry you had to go through this. Are you keeping this boy? I hope you are as it sounds like he is loved by your children and vice versa. This is exactly why you shouldn't buy a puppy over the internet. Too much can go wrong. They didn't come up with that saying, "let the buyer beware" for nothing.

Reply to Rox626: I do want to keep him - my female yorkie chases him and plays with him all day. Whereas my female yorkie is smart and quick, Tiko is really goofy and we love him. Until I decide what to do next, I'm looking for a different stud to breed with my female. Yes you are right about internet buying - it's easy to fall in love with puppy pictures on the internet, but I now know how important it is to see the parents and the breeders home --
I had a pm from someone who told me the Chaffins have awful outdoor breeding facilities -- I feel sick that I played a part in keeping their puppy mill going.
