There is no such breed! The Yorkshire Terrier breed standard classifies Yorkies as up to 7 pounds. They may weigh from 4 to 7 pounds. If a breeder or pet store is selling a "teacup" or "mini", run away! They may be shady and misrepresenting the Yorkie. The tiny ones may be sold too early, perhaps just so they can call them "teacups" or a "mini". If you are set on a smaller Yorkie, ask your breeder when their next litter will be. There will be some "smaller" Yorkies in the litter from which to choose from. A respected breeder that is AKC registered. While that does not always determine that they are to be trusted 100%, there are standards and qualifications that AKC registered breeders must pass.

There are small, full-grown Yorkies that may only weigh 2 pounds. But, it is very rare for Yorkies to be that small. If you have a Yorkie that is on the small side of the scale, you must be very careful with them, as they are definitely more "fragile" than standard sized ones and you must take extra precautions with them, such as making sure they don't fall from a high place or that they don't jump off of places.

That is so true! We learned so much in our "Yorkie search"! Our breeder was recommended by a vet who put us in touch with her. We were working on a project in Missouri at the time and all our interviews had to be done by phone. If anything, she did everything she could to discourage our buying a baby as small as we wanted! Matter of fact ... she encouraged us to try other breeders if we wanted one sooner than she would be willing to give one up! She only raises dogs to show and they all have pure bloodlines. In the end we discovered that in addition to her passion for the Yorkie breed it's just painful for her to part with any of her babies!! Even the little "flukes" like Toto! I think the thing that tipped the scale for us was a face to face interview with the vet and she recommended us as "adoptive parents". Toto was 16 weeks old the day we finally were able to meet her and the breeder still wanted to wait another two months! I thought I would just die if we couldn't bring her home that day! We also met Toto's mommy and she is precious. I don't think it could have been any more difficult if we had been adopting a child! Toto was sooo tiny ... barely l lb. 5 oz. I was so scared! We made that 45 min. drive to the vets three times that week! Each time I was armed with a long list of questions which she patiently answered. We have since gotten a little more relaxed with her but we are still amazed every single day by this little creature! The first thing we do when we have to re-locate is find out the quickest, most direct path to our vet! We even had to switch from our favorite airline because we learned that they don't let pets fly!! Sorry folks .... but Toto rules!!!

It's very scary on the Internet due to the fact that just about anyone can put up a nice flashy page to make themselves look reputable. A referral would help of course. I'm surprised they would blatantly lie to you like that, bettyanne!

Lie? I'm sorry, I don't understand? I didn't mean that anyone lied ... I just meant that I was thankful that we found the reputable breeder that we found and that she cared so much more about the puppy than the "mega bucks" that we paid for her. I could have made a healthy downpayment on a new car! We have been so fortunate that Toto is just perfect and her health is so good [knock on wood]! She is such a joy!

What the Admin said is so true, but people don't run away when they want the tiny ones. You can look at any news paper and see people selling them as tiny tea cups and will meet you half way, since they live far from you. Thats another red flag. A good breeder wants you to see were her puppies come from. I tried to do research before I bought my two yorkies. I went to alot of places that broke my heart to see how they raised there puppies. Like said by others good breeder do have small ones but will be very carefull who they place them with......................Cindy

Gypsy Rose at 8lbs is in my opinion delicate enough for us!! She is the smallest yorkie we've had! The pup we will be having in 3 weeks (Oh that sounds good---!!) will also be about the same size. This breeder say that they have been asked time and time again for tiny yorkies but just don't agree with it. Gypsy Rose was so tiny when we had her that I know I would be terrified of one that remained very small but that's just my personal opinion. Ana xx

I agree that they´re more fragile.I have a "tiny" my self,shes nine months old and weighs 1lb 13 ounces.She very very small compared to my younger yorkie jess..who is almost 4 months old and weighs 4lb´s 4 ounces.

Yes,everything is normal between them now And it only took 7 weeks! lol.They play ALOT and every now and again Lady apreciates jessie´s big size because she can snuggle up and feel warm They get closer every day now,life is good..lol.

As a responsible breeder, I never used the terms, tinies or teacups, but I must say that where I live almost everyone wants very, very small yorkies, so I try to breed at 5 lb and under. Two of my own y.t. boys are both healthy, lively 2 1/2 pounders and they are my heart and soul! Both my girls, however, are 6-7 lb.

Charlie is my soul. The two puppy boys from Maggie's last litter (a healthy litter of 5, believe it or not) were sired by a tiny, 3 lb male. Each puppy is totally different from his brother. Huggie Bear E. Cute is so appropriately named. He is so soft and cuddly. Bear has short legs, but all my dogs are long in body. He has an adorable baby doll face, as do all my yorkies. He has an extremely laid-back personality. He will play with the other dogs, but is just as happy lounging around by himself. He looks like Maggie, his y.t. mom. Bear weighs a hefty 6 lb already, and try as we might, we could not get Mr. a bit lazy Bear's ears to ever stand up, but then again, those floppy ears seem to just add to his personality. He is a very quiet little one and would be an excellent pet for an elderly person or couple or someone who does not want that lively, energetic yorkie pup to have to chase after. Bear will sit on your lap and be petted and pampered til the cows come home! Then there is Ralfie. Ralfie is Bear's litter brother. He, however, is just the opposite of Bear. He is a slender yorkie and he was the first in the litter to want to be a "big dog". He is extremely intelligent and watches the big dogs to learn from them. He is a very quick learner, too! He loves to play with the other y.t.'s and with toys. And he loves have our attention, too. He is very kissy and loveable and has an adorable fall-in-love face! Ralfie weighs about 4 lb, a lightweight little guy with a great big personality. He is well mannered and well behaved. He is not a barker either, but will have his say only once in a while. Ralfie is a little long in leg, but I think once his coat grows out, he will appear shorter. Both boys were born on April 25, 2004, which puts them to date at 20 1/2 wks old (about 5 months old).They are housetrained to a doggie door, and if you offer a doggie litter pan, Ralfie will use it, too, if he feels the need to do so. There is no doubt in my mind that either of these puppy boys will have any trouble bonding with a new family. I am offering both of these boys with limited AKC registrations on spay/neuter contracts. For my prices you will have to email me personally. I never drop prices on my dogs,no matter their ages. I don't believe in that, just to "get rid of them". If I do not find forever homes for my puppies, then they will always have a loving forever home with us. I do not consider my boys to be too old to adopt out since I never release my puppies until they are a minimum of 12 weeks old anyway. So, that is my yorkie family for now. I am still trying to learn how to navigate this site, so I will figure out how to post photos and go to the breeder section as I get more acquainted with it.
