| Poodle - Allergy Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew how to treat allergies. Well, I think its allergies. The doctor has given her benadryl and some other med (I can't remember the name of it) and it seemed to work to a degree. I still find she is knawing on her paws, her thigh. You can see her skin from how much she is working on those paws. What can I do to stop her from biting herself? |

| Do you have her on grain free food? I have a 5 yr old bichon that has HORRIBLE allergy's. He looks like a "normal"dog from about Nov-Feb, then after that starts get red paws, licks and licks to where the sound is enough to drive you crazy! 2 year we did shots, benedryl with NO luck the shots just made him pee everywhere.....anyway by the end of the summer every year it would look like he had mange, his whole backside was red, balding, etc.....I switched to grain free with NO corn and no wheat and for him no chicken or duck...not all are allergic to this but he was. We alternate between Taste of the wild buffalo/bison and natures variety instinct and it took about 3 mos to really tell the difference.....but the difference is AMAZING!!!!!! This is his first full summer being grain free and we just now started getting the itchy paws about a week ago from his grass allergy......without the food change it would have been an entire summer of misery. If you have not tried the grain free yet, it is so worth the switch. I will not even give him corn/wheat treats but he is a totally different dog!

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I agree that it might be diet. I have a Shih tzu that has/had horrible allergies. He was on shots once a month for it. He would dig his back legs so bad they would bleed. Now He is like a different dog and has not had a shot in over a year. I feed Wellness and he does great on that. I went to Eukanuba for a while because I had coupons and he started itching all over again.
