Update on my traveling nurse adventure Well guys we think we have it narrowed down some on where we would lke my first assignment to me. I have it narrowed down to three, West Virginia, New Hampshire or Massachutes.( I know that isn't spelled right). Those three states sound like a good place to start in the summer time. I emailed my recruiter Friday evening and am waiting to hear back from him. Looks like we should start around the first of august. My husband has gotten the green light from all of his doctors. In fact they all said that they thought this could really be good for him. It is a little scarey but very exciting. I have hardly been anywhere my whole life. Heck we haven't taken an out of state vacation since before my youngest son was born and he will be 19 this month. We leave in three weeks for our vacation to Virginia and once we are back things are going to be very very hectic. If anyone lives in any of those three states I would love to hear about them.

I posted a while back to see if anyone here had ever done it. There are several places that we want to go while we are doing this. Alaska, Hawaii and Nevada are three of them. They just filled the Hawaii one a little while ago. Hubby used to live in Alaska and would like to go back for a visit. I told him if one came up in the summer time I would take it, if he would agree to Hawaii if one came up especially in the winter. We are thinking warm states in the winter and cooler states in the summer. I really hope that I like doing this as it will be a great way to see the world and get paid to do it. But if it turns out that I don't then I can always come back to Indiana and find a job.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Do it!!!!!! One good thing about Alaska in summer is that you have a Yorkie sitter right here in Anchorage. I have 16,000 references! I'll have to check out your previous post. It sounds like fun.

Graff will be the only one going with us. Haylee gets car sick so she will be staying with my Mom. She has warned me that she may get attached. We are thinking of having her watch her while we are vacation so see how she gets along with my Mom's dogs. If they don't get along then Haylee will stay home with my son. Believe me you would not want to watch Graff. He was severly abused before I found him. Evidently by a man. He hates men especially if they have a hat on. From the looks of him he has that right. His breast bone has been broken and one of his back legs does not work at all. The vet says that some one has just beat the wholly crap out of him. We are so lucky that I found him or he found me. Heck he jumped in my car at a rest stop that I had stopped at many years ago. My hubby did not like him and he did not like my hubby for a long time. Then once my hubby got sick they became best friends and you hardly ever see one without the other.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Ok, I just reread your previous post and remember it. That is exciting! Can I go too, lol? One thing about Alaska: Know what you want. We have some very isolated villages where I'm sure they need traveling nurses. For the right person, working in a Bush village with no roads and lots of challenge might be perfect. But if you're expecting to have the amenities of a city, you'll want something like Anchorage or Fairbanks.

I totally agree with you. But as much as he hates men, he loves little kids. I really think that where ever he was before he had children around him and he protected them. He will let my grand kids do anything to him and does not like it at all if they get corrected. He is the one responsible for my husband finally understanding the bond between humans and dogs. My husband would do anything in the world for him. Talks to him like a person and takes him just about anywhere with him that he is allowed to go. I plan on telling my recruiter that if a spot opens in alaska that i would lke to apply for it. We would probably lose money though. They will pay for up to $500 in mileage to get from one point to another. But I think it would be worth it to see the places that we really want to see. California and Florida are also on the list but if I go there would want to go in the winter. Cold weather is hard on my hubby so we can go to those places in the winter. The only cost that we will have is pet deposit and cable if we want it. And of course groceries. But they pay everything else. Sounds really good to me.

It takes him a while but most men eventually he will tolerate. Some he won't. What pictures I have seen it does seem pretty there.

Well I talked with my recruiter yesterday and we have it narrowed down to two. Oregon and New Hampshire. Klamath Falls Oregon to be exact. The job in Oregon is alot farther away but pays alot more too. After checking out both places on the internet I believe that I will put my name in the hat for Oregon. I also moved up my can start date to anytime after the 16th of July. Work is so bad right now and they are only giving me 3-4 clients a day which only gives me about 4 hours a day that it is really not feasible for me to stay any longer than what I have to. The town in New Hampshire is Grafton. Anyone from either of those places or close? You guys would not believe the difference in my husband since we started talking about doing this! He is like a new man. Must be the excitement and all the change. If I would have known i would have done this along time ago.

I believe my husband is just as excited if not more than I am. That is exactly what he said, closer to Alaska, but I told him wrong time of the year. As soon as they get my references checked they are going to submit my profile for the position. Hopefully we will get moving on this. I will have to obtain an Oregon license and that takes a few weeks at least. All this and trying to get ready for vacation too. Talk about stress.

Well I sailed through my first interview for the Oregon position. Now my application has been submitted to the acutal facility that is needing the case manager. It is a home health company. They have had two other interviews but neither nurse had actually done case management before. I should hear very soon when my last interview is. And as long as I do well on that one it is off to Oregon later in July. If not then we will be going to New Hampshire.
