| My Children Are.... WONDERFUL. In the past me and my husband has spent quite a bit on each one (i have two) for CHritstmas. He always had a decent christmas when he was growing up and I had a nice one because of the grandmother. MY dads idea of a christmas present was a crockpot (and I was 8) my mom left when i was 7 ...sorry different topic.. But anyways I always said no matter what my children will have a great christmas..not just gifts but family, good feast, traditions, etc...well this year me and my husbanmd decided that we are only getting the girls 2 presents..one from us and one from "santa" but they can be pretty big presents if they want..well my 3 yr old Loves dora so she wants the castle...we are getting that but my 8 yr old is being so stubborn. SHe refuses to tell us what she wants. shes only 8 but really smart and said to me today."mommy, i know there isnt alot of extra money so whatever you get is fine. or just dont get me anything.. NOW I almost started to cry. Not many kids would give up their christmas presents...shes absolutley wonderful. I told my husbad were still getrting them both 2 presents and its what they want but still.....i guess ill have to figure it out on my own! Money is a little tight but were mostly tired of all the greed and hype over christmas and thought they would appreciate 2 presents than a bunch of crap they dont really care about! They also started cleaning out their playroom to give toys to the needy kids that dont have anything. SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!! |

| Sounds like you have great children. I think it is good that your daughter understand the money situation. It will make her appreciate more when she is older. They will remember what you did to give them the best life you could. This material world makes it very rough on us parents. |

| That is wonderful.. i agree it gets to be all about gifts, and kids get so much they don't even appreciate it. I assure you they will appreciate one or two gift a lot more than a dozen of them. |

| Sounds great! A friend of mine says they have always gotten each of their kids 3 Christmas presents -- that is what the baby Jesus got and they should expect no more. I thought that was a sweet way to look at it. I am thinking of going to that as I have gotten too carried away in the past.

| What great children! Some kids are soo greedy, it's geat to hear about kids who are more willing to give to others. And it's also good to hear about kids who don't expect Christmas to be all about presents either. I agree w/ Thorsmomma, you definitly are doing a good job raising them! More parents need to be like that, lol.
