| Are there really people who I DON'T know who he is? I don't watch the news because it just makes me mad, and I am not a big history buff, but my goodness, even I know who he is! I remember when he was finally released from prison and all the celebration that went along with that. I knew he was recently quite ill, but have not really been keeping track.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I heard about this too . He has always been one of my all time heroes...right up there with MLK, and Aung San Suu Kyi. He sacrificed so very much, and never once seemed embittered by it - truly an amazing human being. I hope he is able to pull through this.

| Nelson Mandela is a hero of epic proportions and helped guide his country through what was such a monumental transition to freedom for all while preserving the dignity of all his countrymen and forestalling years of a country-wide raging civil war. And he did it with his genuine hard work, his persona, gravitas, genial nature, political savvy, leadership and above all, his example of how a man of great dignity and ideas can lead a huge, sprawling nation of many peoples through troubled times. This world will not be the same when Nelson Mandela passes from its face. But he left us a legacy of quiet belief in a freedom for all humanity that gives the world hope forever.

| I was just wondering, He is very ill and my gut feeling is this time we may not be so lucky as a nation for him to pull through , he is 94 years old and is very tired. He is still in intensive care and prayers are being offered up for him. As a white south african I admire him for his ability to forgive and yet to be so humble, not to be "puffed up" with all the accolades bestowed on him, he is really a true icon |

| Though he's a fighter, it sounds as if he may not have too long, doesn't it? I'm sure it will be like losing a father figure for your country. But you won't be crying alone - the world will cry right along with you all.
