| Any suggestions on how to cheer him up? My son totaled his truck today. Thank God no one was injured and his was the only vehicle with damage. He's only been driving for a little less than a year and everytime he goes out I always worry about getting "the phone call". Well it happened this afternoon. When I got to the accident site it wasn't as bad as I expected by he was very shaken up and crying. No one was issued any summones. It was just an accident. It was a chain reaction type. The lead car slammed on their brakes and the rest followed but my son slide into his friends van. On the ride home all Jesse said was how sorry he was and didn't want me to be dissapointed in him. I told him that I wasn't and it was just an accident and Thank God HE was alright. That was the only thing that matter. He is so upset now. He didn't want dinner. He wouldn't go to the bon fire. His friends came to see him. He didn't want to go out with them or have them over. I asked him if he wants to watch a movie with me he said he just wants to sit in his room. I don't want him to be this shook up over a car and I can't stand seeing him this upset. Any suggestions on how I can cheer him up? Sorry for the long post.

| Well, kids love their car more than just about anything else. Their cars are part of their identity. Their cars are their independence. I'd just suggest going in and talking and talking if it was me. He's practically lost his best friend, ya know? His car!

| I'm so glad he is ok! He is probably feeling sad, embarrassed, upset, and a host of other feelings and just needs some down time to think about it! Give him lots of love and support. I agree about the truck too, he maybe feels like he lost some of his independence! But again the most important is that he is ok! |

| Sending you PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING upwards outward..... that your son was not hurt and Yorkie hugs to both of you. My son totaled his beloved truck 2 years ago. It was a dandy, too, black, 4-wheel drive ford F150. HE LOVED THAT TRUCK.... I was so glad that he wasn't hurt that I lost focus on how much the truck meant to him...... when I got the accident scene, the truck was upside down in the middle of a busy 2 lane state highway. Anyway, he now has an Integra and is as happy as a bug in a rug..... When there is life it goes on and given time he will find another 4 wheel love ... in the mean time, just give the boy some mama lovin..... and some encouragement.... and maybe some banana pudding, that always works wonders here..... |

| Thanks, Last night we watched War of the Worlds and talked. He seems a little better this morning. You were right he is embarassed and it is like he lost his best friend. He took very good care of it. I always joked with him that if he washed it anymore he would wash the paint right off. We are fortunate that we own a bodyshop and my husband is seeing what we can do to fix the truck if anything. It appears there is damage to the engine and transmission. Thank God again no one was physically hurt. I wish all of you a Happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

| I'm glad that your son is OK! My son had his first accident when he was 19. He had a little older Toyota Camry and the road was wet on a very sharp curve. He slid up an embankment and over on top of a guard rail. When we got there I could see from a distance that his car was teetering on top of this guard rail with a pretty fast moving stream down the other side. I was so thankful that he didn't get hurt. He was pretty shaken up and also embarrassed. It took 2 tow trucks to lift his car off the guard rail, but he was able to drive it home. Tell your son that there are a million cars and trucks out there that he can buy, but there is only ONE of him!! He is irreplaceable!! That kinda helped Chris put things into perspective. |

| Tell him it happens to everyone even the best of drivers. When I was 16 I was rear ended in my car and I freaked. Then I went off the road in my new Mustang just 2 years ago I didn't damage anything but needed to be towed out and I cried so much when I got home. My mom understood b/c she is the one who told me not to try to go to work b/c the roads were so bad. Trust me I know how hurting your car feels to a teenager mine is still my baby!!! |
