| New Orleans Must Sees? First off, helloooooo! Secondly, my husband and I are planning a trip to New Orleans. Neither of us have EVER been. (Shocking eh? A sinner like me never been to NOLA.) So obviously, we know NOTHING about the place. We won't have our daughter with us, so it will be just us adults. Any suggestions on stuff to do, places to eat, hotels? |

| Take the carriage ride through Bourbon street and the old part, go on the riverboat, there are lots of wonderful things to see, some not so good. We were there for a Ga. Bulldog bowl game. Have fun but it is very hot there. This was before Hurricane Katrina. We stayed in the Westin Hotel and Vince Dooley and UGA were there also.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've been to New Orleans twice, and both times were for work...so I spent a lot of time in meetings. Bleh. As for the rest of it...um...I actually can't remember . Oops.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wait! Tour some old houses if you can! That's always a great way to see some history/architecture. The seafood and chefs are incredible. The main cemetery attracts a lot of tourists bc of how different it is. Some of the hotels are just awesome in terms of history. There is one famous hotel there that's haunted. In one hotel, there is a bar that turns in circles. Or, was that just me? No, it really was the bar. See? I do recall some things. Do not, and I mean do NOT drink The Hurricane. If you do, plan on a major buzz (I started talking w/ a British accent the rest of the night), major memory erasure, and major hangover. Good times.

| Love New Orleans! I have been there twice and both times stayed in the French Quarter at the Hotel St. Marie which was very reasonably priced and in a good location. We did all the tourist stuff like tour the cemeteries and go on the riverboat ride but mostly we just liked hanging out around Jackson square and people watching drinking coffee at cafe du monde etc. I hated the food of new orleans although everyone told me how great it was (I'm a northerner and grew up in near the ocean so the seafood didn't cut it for us and honestly when compared with other cities I would give the cuisine a thumbs down -- maybe because we just couldnt bring ourselves do fried frogs and alligators). The music is great and the city is very lively. Oh and let's talk about those Hurricanes. I did drink them, and I can't remember how many or what happened after You can just walk all around and you will be intrigued or at least I was. The one thing I would suggest is to do a night ghost tour of the french quarter. I was so spooked I was afraid to go to sleep!! Have a wonderful trip.

| There is a Pat O's in Destin. Unfortunately, this advice came about a year too late. I know I want to go to the cemetery where Madam Leveau is buried. (Plus, I just hear the cemeteries there are strange.) I want to do some type of ghost tour. And ride on one of those big swamp boats with the huge fan. And see the two Real World houses because I'm a nerd. Thanks for the suggestions all...keep em comin! |

| Tours of the Bayous, see gaters and a lot of wild life. Bourbon Street, Grandma Sally's Prelines. Most Hotels can get you on tours, and you can also just walk around, but do be very careful at night. Stay off the beaten paths. Dress for hot and Humid....and have a great time. |

| We did the Ghost tour and loved it. Of course, you want to go to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. The food is just amazing in New Orleans. Hope to go back again someday. Have a great time.

| Hey, Bama! DH and I have been to NOLA several times, mostly in the summer and let me tell you-pack LOTS of changes of clothes, especially undies and socks!!! You will not believe the heat and humidity! I agree with the poster about Hotel St. Marie. This is a beautiful place, reasonably priced and close to everything. This was our favorite hotel, of all the different ones we stayed at. The old Holiday Inn on Royal is not bad, location wise, and you don't need a valet to park/get your vehicle if you need something out of it, or go somewhere. I recommend checking out the following: the French Market Cafe du Monde the Audubon Zoo the Garden District (ride the St. Charles street car) Avoid any unlighted street/place or unbeaten path at night, especially! You could be mugged if you don't stay with the crowd. The Moonwalk at night is NOT recommended! Its been six years since DH and I have been (right before Katrina) and I'm starting to get the "hankering" for NO very badly. Once you go, I'm afraid you will get it in your blood, lol! Enjoy! |
