| Yep, Im from MN too. Im relatively new puppy owner too. Just got my girl Izzy in Oct. Ive got some ideas on how to help you out....... 1. Invest in a coat or sweater and possibly some boots/slipper things, if you want to go on walks or even if you think you might train them to go outside to potty. 2. But a bunch of pee-pads up front, i promise you'll use them. 3. Make sure that their crate/kennel is set up in a warm room, it will help with crying at night. 4. But squeeky tennis balls, your pup will love em, and it will help them burn off thier energy since its too cold for them to play outside for long periods of time (at least for the time being). 5. If have any notion that you want your new pup to go the bathroom outside don't wait unitl spring. Start now, and reward often! You can always private message me if you want to talk more Congrats on your new addition! Last edited by izzybear7; 12-05-2007 at 07:44 PM. |

| I am from your neighboring state of South Dakota. I gated off a small area for my puppy and put his bed, toys, and pee pad in that area. At night I put him in a large soft kennel with him on a snuggle puppy in his bed and his pee pad in the back of the kennel. I never once had a crying puppy as I think the heartbeat in the snuggle puppy made him feel secure. I trained both of my boys this way and they still use the pee pads in the house but know that they can go outside when we go for a walk. I now use cloth pee pads and they use them with no problem. Snuggle puppy is a GREAT investment! Good luck!

| Hello to Shakpoee! And welcome to the site and the new puppy! I realize your post is a few months old already. How are things going? I got my first Yorkie Puppy not quite 2 Months ago so I can relate. Also, I used to live in Cologne and St. Boni for 14 years but moved up north in 2005. By the way: if you're still looking for a good vet in the area, try Dr. Waag in Chaska. I used him for my 2 Lhasa Apsos for years. I admit: I miss the cities sometimes. Greetings from Lakes Country! |

| Minnesota Morkie Mom Hey Shakopee, we're from Belle Plaine! We got our little Morkie last January when she was 12 weeks and weighed 2 pounds. It's just too cold for them to go out very much here so I decided to pee pad train. I got a holder and pee pads from Fosters and Smith for Belle. She is crate trained so I didn't want the pee pad close to there. When she was little, I got up about every 4 hours and put her on her pee pad and told her to go potty. I then gave her a little potty treat and back to bed she went. I kept the pee pad in a corner in the livingroom where I could see what she was doing. Sometimes she would go by herself and if not I put her on the pad after she ate, after naps, in the AM and before bed plus about every couple hours during the day. She did so good, was 90% trained in less than 2 weeks. Then we discovered she didn't like to poop on the same pad, or where we could watch her. I added a pad in the den that is mostly for poopin'. She is pretty prissy about her pee pads so I put a sheet (folded) of newspaper on the pee pad. When she pees alot, I change the paper. Sometimes I don't have to for most the day. Belle won't go on the pad if it's very wet. With her poop pad, I also use newspaper and then pick up the poop as soon as she goes. She has to watch me throw it in the potty and flush... always barks good-bye! Lots and Lots of praise and potty treats. Even though the poopin' pad is in the den, she has to let me know what she did. I ignored her one day as we had company and the next thing I know is that Belle dragged the pee pad out to show me.....LOL. Good thing my company knows I don't live in a real normal home! Good luck |

| From Minnesota Hello, I live in Golden Valley, MN and have 2 yorkies, ages 2 and 5. I spoil them rotten, of course. I own/operate a pet sitting and dog walking business located in Golden Valley. We used to belong to a Yorkie Meet up, but it has since disbanded and moved to Burnsville, so we don't attend any longer. There was another small dog meet up in St Paul too, but that is a bit out of the way for us as well. I thought about starting up another Yorkie meet up closer to home, but I don't really have the time to commit unfortunately.
