| What does it mean "broke their coat"? I've just read two threads about Yorkies "breaking their coat". What does it mean, how do you know, and what happens? Thanks!

| I means that the black colour in the back is changing to a different colour...like the steel blue that yorkies get as they get older...the colour can break at a young or older puppy age..I dont know the specifics but alot of breeders here will answer that for you.. Dawn |

| Ive also wondered about this...Chewy turned 1.5 this month. She has blonde hair on her head and a black body. There are some grey hairs in between the black but majority is black. People here have said the coat they have at 1 is the coat for most of their adult life....how many of you have found this to be the case? At what age did your babys coats change? |

| Like mentioned, it is when the darker black on a pup starts to change to the steel blue, silvery lighter color. You can usually tell first at the roots of the hair on their head, then at the part along their backs. |
