| New to Yorkie talk and expecting for the first time I'm new to the board and My 3 year old molly is expecting her first litter next week. Any advice for the new grandma would be a great help. Oh and our vet told us that she is expecting 7! Isn't that a lot for a yorkie? |

| Welcome to YT! Wow 7 puppies! That is quite a large litter. Average is 2-4. How big is she? If she's on the larger size it would be more normal to have a large litter

| Welcome to YT!! Yes, 7 sounds like a lot for a yorkie - I'm wondering how big mom & dad are? I used to breed Bichon Frises and the first litter we had the vet so oh, she'll probably just have 2-3 pups --- well she delivered 6 beautiful pups with no problems, next litter 7, next 2 litters 8 a pc! I think if mom is a good size and very healthy those little eggs & sperm just make more viable pups -- I will be interested to see if you really end up with 7.

| Hi and Welcome to YT. There is a search bar at top and you can look up lots of info that was, or you can go to the breeders section on this forum it will tell you what you should be feeding the momma dog now and after she has the puppys and when you can start giving her 1/2 of a tums. lots of info there. 7 puppys are alot for a Yorkie. ask your vet every thing you can think of before the time comes. Good Luck. |

| Welcome to YT. That sounds like a large litter. I would do a search on whelping to find some answers, and also put this in the breeder section, as they are the experts on these matter. Let us know when she goes into labor, so we can all support you as the process is happening.

| Yes, 7 is very unusual, no matter what her size. Congrats and good luck, you're gonna be one busy lady when the pups are whelped. Advice, with this size litter you will be doing alot of supplemental feeding....and after the pups are whelped make sure mom has alot of extra food and please don't forget the calcium (you may want to speak to your vet about this) to prevent eclampsia.

| Thank you all Thank you all for your advice! Molly weighs 10lbs normally and the male she was bread with weighs 6 lbs. She is very large compared to my daisy who weighs in at a whopping 3lbs at age 4. I have been searching the web, reading yorkie books and talking to the vet, However, until the big day is here I'm not sure what to expect. Very concerned due to the litter size. I just want to be prepared. I keep adding to the whelping kit! I would rather have too much than not enough. I'm a stay at home mom and Grandma of 5 so it wont be a problem for me to supplement the puppies if necessary. Please send all the pointers you can my way!!! I'll keep you informed when the big day is here. Thanks again! |
