| Vet Just Called, I am stressing!! I had Winstin's blood work done for his Neuter that will be coming up. His two kidney tests came back elevated. I have to take in a urine sample in the morning (How in the world will I get that?) She said the numbers were not bad but were up a little. Do any of you have experience with this? I am going crazy. She said some dogs are naturally high but it could be a protein issue. What should I think/feel? Could it be food? Why is it with these guys every little thing seems so big and it makes you worry so much? At least it does me.

| I have no idea what the problem is. Personally it was impossible for me to get a urine sample from Ellie. The vet prefers to take it from them anyway though.

| Well, my golden peed on the vet floor last time and she collected that and checked it. I may do something similar in my bathroom to get his sample. I am thinking we will have to change food. The food I use, I have used for 8 years so I have no clue what to even switch to if its needed.

| Sorry I can't be of help but want to wish you good luck with Winston. Hopefully everything is fine. Maybe he's just one of those that run alittle higher. |

| I think it would be easier for the vet to get the urine sample, because I have no idea how I would get it myself. LOL I think we worry so much, because their so tiny.

| Very true! She said if I can't get one, I can let her do it when he gets neutered but I am not patient enough to wait that much. I think in the morning I will let him go in my bathroom or on my porch and then use a syringe to get it off the floor. That's how we got Sandie's(although she is just a nervous dog and peed from that.)

| That's interesting. I know different vets are comforable with different things but Ellie's vet office takes it via cystocentesis while the patient is awake. They don't like using samples from the floor because (especially when a UTI is suspected) it usually gets contaminated. If there is no worry of a UTI it may be okay though.

| I'm going through the same thing you are. They did blood work on Adie again and her level is still a bit elevated so they must have that first thing urine sample. I posted the question not long ago on how to get said sample. The two best suggestions were: Turn the pee pad over so she pees on the plastic and you can suck it up into a syringe. One woman took a tablespoon and watched real close then put it under her dog from behind. It didn't even know she had done that. PM me and let me know your outcome and I will do the same. Good Luck! |

I took her urine sample in last Friday, my vet suggested to just stick a butter dish under her when she squatted to pee and that worked and I was able to collect one. Well the vet called me yesterday and said that her urine sample showed no protein (which she said was a good thing) is this true? She is going in tomorrow morning for her blood work again. I just hope her first tests were just a fluke and that she will be okay, I have no idea what could be wrong with her. Did you ever find out what is the matter with your baby?
